I know you are passed. But I have to say that I think they did the right thing.
I understand the relationship you have with them. But I don't think anyone in their right mind would interrupt your grieving for powerball tickets.
Could they have waited? Sure. But still "hey your grandma died, wanna buy tickets?" I say give them a small break.
And I'm so sorry for your loss.
But she is saying these are people that are good friends, whom she has worked with for 10 years. They are not people she just met and was unsure what to do. A simple text later after funeral services would have been fine with the poster.
No need to even text or interrupt her at all - just throw in the money for her and when she was back to work tell her you spotted her the $5. Sounds like they are all close enough to know she would want to be a part of the group tix and would reimburse the person who paid for her. I'd be really annoyed that no one thought to include me.
Yes, you are right. No need for a text.

No, I would not be pissed. In the long scheme of things... this is small beans.
Millions of dollars and not having to work ever again is not small beans in my world lol (oh, and I know the place she works at as I know people who worked there and she would have been better of winning and getting out of there lol).

Thankfully, this is a moot point this morning. Could you imagine on the OFF chance they won though, my entire dept getting to retire and quit and I was left behind. I would've lost my mind, LOL!

Re: Would you be pissed?
OP I am so very sorry for your loss..
I would also be upset..when you are grieving your sensitivity heightens, but perhaps it wasn't intentional..there was soooooo much mania surrounding this particular powerball that I think its easy for organizers to not think straight. At my job we did a pool..and the poor guy assigned to go get the tickets had to keep going to get more because we kept forgetting people..and those people were there!!!
anyway..glad the point was moot in the end

Re: Would you be pissed?
But did they win?
I for one no matter how close I am with anyone would NEVER EVER text to see if they want in on a ticket. So don't be mad at that. Don't also expect them to wait until you came back because if you think about it; why should they Wait till last minute to play? And just what IF you didn't want to come back on Wednesday; then what?
Also you seem so sure they didn't think of you. But how are you sure? If you were so upset you should have asked them. Most likely I will guess their response.
Honestly the most important thing is.... Did they give their condolences? That I hope they did.
FWIW, I also did a lotto pool at my job. I collected and emailed everyone and left one guy out since he was out on vacation for 2 weeks in FL. When I played again yesterday he was back and I totally forgot to include him since I resent original email from the week before. Anyway he found out about it; came over with his money and asked me if I really wanted him to be the only guy sitting at his desk the next day if we won. Innocent mistake but I still felt bad. But he still had a sense of humor about it.
This will blow over. Theres nothing wrong in letting them know how you feel. It would probably make you feel better getting it off your chest. You never know. Someone could have chipped in for you but since they lost it wasn't worth mentioning.

Re: Would you be pissed?
I would NEVER ever bother someone about anything that wasn't a life or death situation while they were at the wake or funeral of a loved one.

Re: Would you be pissed?
They could have texted you. Would you be looking at your phone during the funeral? Nope. So the text wouldn't have been interfering with anything.
On the other side- they really probably didn't want to bother you but could have spotted the $ for you.
It's a catch 22.
So sorry for your loss.

Re: Would you be pissed?
This exact thing just happened at my office.
We all put in $2, my co-worker and friend was out because her mother passed away.
I did not want to text her and ask that, didn't think it was the right thing to do. So I had all intentions of putting in the money for her but the person running it got the tickets before I had a chance.
If we won, I figured I would give her a couple mil to make up for it

Would you be pissed?
if i was your coworker, I would feel uncomfortable calling/texting you to ask if you wanted to be a part of the powerball pool. You were grieving the loss of a family member, and calling you about the powerball would feel weird for me to do.

Re: Would you be pissed?
I would be annoyed. We went in at work and covered everyone in our group that wasnt there. No text, no call, just put in money for them. They covered whoever covered them next round.
ETA: So sorry for your loss.

Would you be pissed?
I would be annoyed. Based on the level of camaraderie and friendship at the office, a text/phone call would not have even been necessary. Someone should've said "hey, let's put in $5 for them since they aren't here."
That's how I am, but I guess I'm in the minority.

Re: Would you be pissed?
I truthfully think I would be annoyed if they asked. I just lost my grandmother and i know i would not even be thinking it about it. I would have them offer a condolence then see if i want to go in on a ticket....IMO
