A lot of amniotic fluid?!

I had an elective 3D sonogram done today. The tech asked me if I had my gestational diabetes screen yet. I said yes. She's like you passed?!?! I said umm yes why? She said you have a lot of amniotic fluid. I should have asked her for more info but she's not my dr or in my Dr's office and I was kind of taken back.

Of course now I'm googling high amounts of amniotic fluid and what it means and am concerned. Has anyone ever been told this? If so, what was the cause and the outcome? I'm 30 weeks.

A lot of amniotic fluid?!

With my first I had a high amount of fluid but no one was ever really concerned about it. They kept telling me the baby was going to be so big but it turns out I was just full of fluid! When my water broke it was like the flood gates opened!!!! They actually documented in my chart "copious amount of fluid" lol and baby was only 6lbs 12oz

I had lots of fluid with my son. Out of the normal range so at 38 weeks they induced me. It can cause hemorrhaging, which is exactly what happened to me once he came out. My dr. said I gave him a run for his $.

That's very strange she said anything. 3D sonos are not supposed to be diagnostic, nor are they supposed to say anything to you for liability issues.

That being said, now you're probably going nuts, so why not just bring it up to your OB?

I called my OB and left a message. The person I originally spoke with was not happy that I went for a 3d sonogram at all. They said they don't support them which makes no sense because one of their office locations actually does them. So now I feel like I did something wrong. I am going to wait to see what they say when they call me back.

You didn't do anything wrong. Many OBs don't "support" them, but they should support you and your pregnancy concerns - regardless of what got you there. Hope you can get some peace of mind today!

A lot of amniotic fluid?!

I'm 27 weeks and 2 days along. I was in the hospital this past weekend due to high blood pressure and they needed to rule out pre-e. They did a sonogram and they told me I have extra fluid around the baby as well. The High risk OB said it could be anything and I hadn't had my glucose screening yet so they were monitoring my glucose with finger sticks and an hga1c blood test and my sugars were perfectly normal. The HR OB said there were no indicators on the sonogram for any birth defects and there weren't any issues at my 20 week sono and at the fetal echo I had done as well. He thinks it could just be a big baby... or idiopathic. which means 'no reason really'.

I see my regular OB on thursday and he said we'll schedule a growth scan to see just how big this baby is and to check the fluid again.

The fluid fluctuates day to day. So it could be just a fluke.

I also thought the 3d elective sonos were not diagnostic so she really had no business saying anything.

Did your OB ever get back to you?

The OB actually had me come in yesterday. The fluid they said is normal. My babies head is also measuring 2 weeks bigger than the rest of her but they didn't seem too concerned. I am having growth scans every two weeks to check on her.

They said they don't support outside 3D places because of situations like these. They prefer to do them in their office because if there is a concern there is a dr always in to address it. Which totally makes sense.
