Question about timing
Hi ladies,
So I'm waiting for my AF to get here so I can start my first cycle of IVF. The doctors said if I can get it in the next day or two I will be on birth control for two weeks and then the last day for egg retrievals this month is Feb. 23rd. Question...why do they only do egg retrievals up to a certain point in the month??
TIA

Re: Question about timing
Im not sure I understand what your Dr said... Some practices take a vacation. Maybe that's why? But even if you got AF tomorrow, and take BCP for 2 weeks, what are they going to do after that? You'll need to stim for 10-12 days which will bring you into March for retrieval.

Re: Question about timing
I know in my clinic they do rounds of IVF. There are certain dates you can start stims, have a retrieval, transfer etc. The way it was explained to me was that they have to try to space things out a bit for the embryologists so that they aren't doing 20 retrievals all in the same day and doing ICSI on eggs at 2 in the morning. That being said, I've never had a problem starting a cycle when my body was ready to so their dates are pretty generous. Hope that helps!

Re: Question about timing
I just started the IVF process. My period was Jan. 14. I had to go in on CD 18 (Jan. 31) to confirm I had already ovulated so I could start Estrace (it's an estrogen pill used to quiet everything down before you start stimming — they either give you this or put on you birth control from what I understand).
I took Estrace every night until I got my period, which was yesterday.
Today, CD 2, I went in for blood and sono and I literally just got the call giving me the green light to start stim meds tonight.
I will take two injections for the next four nights and then go for blood and sono again on Sunday and will find out my next move then. They told me to expect to be on stim meds for 10-12 days.
They estimate my retrieval will be around Feb. 21, but it all depends on how I respond to meds.
Hope that helps a little.

Thank you for sharing this process with me! I'm just about in the same boat as you are so its nice to know that others are in the same boat and we can all relate!
