Safest convertible carseat?
All car seats need to meet the same regulations. There is no safer one. There's ones with more bells and whistles. Head rests, cup holder, ease of installation, etc.
WIth that said, we have the britax advocate

Yup all seats are safe and there is no way to tell which one is safest, no matter what the manufacturer or consumer reports claims.

Re: Safest convertible carseat?
Like others have said, they all must pass the same tests. Things that might set one seat apart from another are 1. Ease of instillation (a car seat installed correctly is a lot safer then one that is not ) , 2. What is best for your car (more important when you have to use multiple seats in a row ) , and 3. What is the max height/weight for rear facing that the seat allows (the longer the better)

Re: Safest convertible carseat?
there are some seats that fit specific cars the best. Depending on your car will depend on the seats recommended. Typically the more expensive seats aren't any safer, they just are made with sturdier parts and last longer. With that being said, the most expensive carseat on the market isn't going to be safe if it isn't properly installed in your car or your child isn't fastened correctly. Making sure the crotch belt, chest straps, and chest clip are used properly will keep your child the safest. Also it is recommended that all children stay rear facing until AT LEAST 2 instead of following the minimum weight requirements. i know there are some techs on the board who can help if needed.
