I'm very curious how many people know someone who is "cheating" the system
I do t know the solution/what's right/how to fix it etc But everyone seems to say the numbers of people Who take advantage are low etc but off the top of my head I personally know 3 people Who do
I'm curious of people who know so many abusing the system.
- do these fraudsters admit it or brag about it? - what lengths do they go to do it? - how do you as a witness know this for a fact to be true abuse (in the instance where the abuser doesn't own up to it)
I know of only one person who tried to get disability. They don't work. Haven't in years. They are 40ish. Able bodied. They tried to get it for their back. And they were denied. And denied again.
It's been awhile and I'm fuzzy but...Even when I went to my doc to try to get a note when I was towards the end of my pregnancy - (wasn't scamming, I was having some issues ) I couldn't get one.
When I had a surgery and was out of work (I have great benefits, fmla, short term disability, long term disability, you name it, I get it) - the short term disability company would call like every 3 days hounding me. And I had a legitimate surgery!
So that's just my experiences and all. It just seems to me that it's hard to "pull one over" on all the systems we have. Hell, it's hard to even get whatever it is you need when you're doing things by the book, you know?
Not saying fraud doesn't exist. Just curious how.

2 out of the 3 I know their husbands work off the books for like 80 Percent of what he takes home. So on paper he makes nothing
So they qualify for food stamps and free medical
The other person I know doesn't work bc of a disability that doesn't exist and gets a check evey month as well As food stamps
Which who knew it was like A credit card these days. Was a shock to me lol

Let's be realistic here. The price of coffee is not going to double if employees are paid $15/hour. The price may increase by 25 cents and that 25 cents could help an employee make a living wage and get off government assistance. Do people realize that working 40 hours at $15/hr is only $600 week? Could you live off $600/week?
$600/week is over 30k a year. Yes, I could and have lived off of that.
you and others might have, but I will say with the cost to rent in todays market there is not much if anything real left over to pay bill, food, gas in the car etc with out stealing from paul to pay peter.

Re: A different spin on presidential candidates...
I consider myself a libertarian who wants a safety net. Socially people should be able to marry, have sex with, and smoke what the want. I think the government needs to stay out of the ethics of healthcare and leave that decision making to people who know the medicine. (i.e. things like the Terri Schiavo) case. Same goes for abortion.
Fiscally I think we need a 2 pronged approach. For those folks who can manage their own lives we should let government get out of the way. This is America. We want more of our money in our pockets vs. paying 70% taxes like in Europe. However, we still need a safety net. After all, this is America. We are the richest nation in this earth and it's sad that we have people going bankrupt from medical care. It's easy to say "tough, make better choices" but is that the society we want?
The thing that's lacking in politics these days is nuance. Everything is soundbite driven and everyone has a litmus test. I have yet to see someone truly in the middle.

It's not 70%, but whatever.
To answer the OP, these things are important to me:
-healthcare. A system that needs reform. It was a good start and it needs more work. It should NOT go back to the way it was.
-gun control. Fix up the gun show loophole. Get a start on banning them.
-college education. I don't think Bernie's plan will work, but something to get started would be great.
-I'd like to see a reform of the FACTA and I'd like to stop filing taxes abroad. I'm tired of being neglected because I'm not in the US. I also don't think the government has any right to access my bank accounts around the world. After all, my husband's name is along side them and he is not a US citizen or has he ever held a green card, etc. It's ridiculous and an invasion of privacy.
I have a list of tons of other things, but I can't think of them right at this moment.
