C-Section at Winthrop
Has anyone had a c-section at Winthrop recently? I am having one in 19 days, aaaah!!! I've only delivered at North Shore Plainview, but that isn't a maternity hospital anymore. I am just curious how things are at Winthrop. Of course my OB is out until my section so I won't be seeing him until then to ask.
After the section, do they take the baby to the nursery? At Plainview I had the baby n recovery with me. I plan on Bfing, so Id like to be able to nurse her asap.
Also, I can't remember how long the spinal lasts, with my last one I feel like I could feel my feet within an hour if not less of being in recovery.

C-Section at Winthrop
I had an unplanned c-section in October 2014. The baby never left my side until we got to our room and he was only taken from me for a blood test and his circumscion. I was able to nurse DS as soon as I got to recovery just because I was given medication for my pressure and it made me sleepy. You should be able to BF ASAP. They were extremely supportive of BF. I didn't have a spinal I had an epidural so I am not sure about that. I had my section at 4:40 pm and was out of my bed and walking at 6 am
I personally had a fantastic experience with Winthrop and the care I received.
If you have any other questions feel free to FM me

Re: C-Section at Winthrop
I had a C-Section there this past June. It wasn't a scheduled C though.. I had to get one after a failed induction. So when they rolled me into the operating room I already had the epi done, but they must have topped me off with another drug because I felt out of it... after the baby was born they cleaned her off and gave her to my DH who was sitting right next to me. Again I am not the norm because I was so out of it I could hardly keep my eyes open- could be because I was up all night laboring.... She stayed there with us and then we moved to an actual room. They took the baby to the nursery when I asked and at night (I did not BF) but otherwise she remained in the room with me.

Re: C-Section at Winthrop
A friend just recently had a scheduled c-section at Winthrop and they kept the baby with her and her DH after delivery. She did try to breastfeed but no luck and they didn't seem to push it, just handed her the pre-made formula. They also seemed to assume she'd want the baby with her 24/7, breastfeeding success or not. She had to specifically ask for them to bring the baby to the nursery.

Re: C-Section at Winthrop
I had an unplanned csection there about a month ago. They kept the baby with me the whole time from the moment he was born. we did skin to skin and started breastfeeding right away. I couldn't have asked for better care there. good luck!

Re: C-Section at Winthrop
Just had my second csection there five weeks ago. They had my DH do skin to skin with DD while I was being stitched up and then she was brought right to recovery with me. With my first DD (2013) she was brought to the nicu because she was preemie so I was in recovery without her.
Eta - they are super pro breastfeeding so as long as there aren't any complications, you'll be able to nurse asap. I was nursing dd2 in the recovery room.
