maternity leave and new job?
I'm in the interview process for a new teaching job this Sept. My due date is July 21, and I intend on going back to work on the first day of school. However, if I go in to labor late, or if I have a c-section, there may be a week or two that I will still be on medical leave. If I am offered the new position and take it, how does that work for maternity leave/health benefits?

You would not be eligible for FMLA.

I'm assuming you would go back even if it was before the 6/8 weeks.

If they're okay with it- it would be unpaid. I'm only covered for as much as I am because I've been at my job for almost 11 years.

If i were to get this position, it is in a fantastic area and the salary increase would make it worth it to go back on the first day of school if I had to. I just wasn't sure if it was possible to be given health benefits and be able to stay out for a couple of weeks in the beginning until I get to the 6/8 week mark

You wouldn't even be working there yet, so you wouldn't be covered by FMLA.

I think you would just have to start when they want and unfortunately you wouldn't be entiled to any benefits before you officially start.
