Neighbor called town. Can I find out who?
You can fill out for a FOIL request from the town and the complaint information would be listed. You will find out from that whether or not they gave their info.

Neighbor called town. Can I find out who?
Nearly all the decent areas here have an HOA. We pay them. They can put a lien on our house for not paying our fees or fines. Fines includes grass, garbage bins, etc. Our grass gets too high we get a certified letter taped to our door and 48hrs to fix it. Home or not. Rain or shine. Our fees pay for them fine fellows to have nice cars they drive up and down the streets of the HOAs they manage LOOKING for infractions. It's just lovely! not.
So everyone mows, everyone trims. If not, you get a service. House is unoccupied? It has a service assigned. No clippings are on the sidewalks or street either. No trash, debris or litter. Bins are to be put away by 6pm same day. Holiday décor can go up 30days before and must be down 30days after.. RULES RULES RULES! UGH!!!!!

I'm friendly with 3 of my neighbors. I suspect it's one of 3 more. Dh got into a fight with one when he parked his car in front of our house right before a snow storm so that his side of the block would her plowed instead of ours. Then he shoveled his car out by shoveling the fire hydrant in front of our house back in after dh shoveled it out. Another neighbor is nice, but lawn guys are there 3x a week- he is meticulous. And the last was someone we also have a slight problem with because they reported dh's car abandoned. He moved it across the street to change the oil in my car and then just left it there because he used my car that day. It was on the side of their house for one day and they called it in abandoned. The police told us it was that house will called it in.
Wow. And I thought my neighbors sucked.
I think it could be any of them since they all sound like lunatics.
What happens if you don't cut the grass?
If we don't cut the grass they send someone to make sure you're in violation and if you are, they send someone to do it and charge you a minimum of $500!!!!!!

not sure why you want to know who called to be honest, what are you going to do when you find out? lol. My neighbor is a PITA and is always asking us to cut our lawn, even when it's not tall as he is trying to sell his house. he actually cut it himself while we were waiting for the landscaper to come, DH was less than thrilled about that

Although they should have tried to contact you first and it is a little unsettling that someone would call the town for semi-over grown grass, I would let it go. Not worth the stress and aggregation.
ETA: Just saw the update. Claiming that the house is abandoned as a result of uncut grass and a car parked in the driveway is a little over the top. Sorry you are dealing with this but again, I would just move on.

Next time you go away you should leave a note in their mailbox saying you're going to be away and they shouldnt worry because you'll be back and nothing is abandoned- head it off before they do anything again and maybe this way they'll get the message that you know it's them. Passive-aggressive, maybe? But it would really annoy me that they have nothing better to do than "worry" about a house that's been "abandoned" for a week or so. Haven't they ever heard of people going on vacation?

The only thing I would like about that situation is the holiday decor not being allowed up earlier than 30 days before the holiday! No Christmas decorations in early November! And they have to be done 30 days after! No leaving them up year round due to laziness!

Leave that car on he street for about a week and then ring every neighbors door and ask them, "this car seems abandoned, what do you think? Should we call the town??" And see who bites the bait!! Lol
