Adopting a kitten

My son has been driving me crazy for over 3 years for us to get a cat. this past month we cat sat for an elderly neighbor who had surgery and was recuperating at her daughters in NJ. we had the cat in our home and my son was very responsible with the cat helped me feed the cat and give it water and play with her and brush her and overall I was impressed and pleased obviously I helped him with the litter box but I do not mind. Our dog 10 pound love muffin was happy too and enjoyed the company. I am a stay at home mom and would love to get a cat. I don't want a pedigree cat just a regular mix breed kitten. I would like it to be 2-3 months an I don't mind male female as we are planning on fixing the cat. We live in queens, would like to rescue a kitten, any ideas or do you know someone. thanks

Re: Adopting a kitten

If you go to Petco or Petsmart they usually have kittens and cats from local rescues on display in the stores.

That's how i found my two.

Look up Linda Cairo in Plainview on Facebbok. We just adopted 2 gingers from her. She does rescues, takes awesome care of the kitties and will even have them fixed if you want to wait to bring them home. FM me if you can't find her.

Adopting a kitten

Both my cats were rescue kittens. One came from a shelter and the other came from a woman who goes around to Nyc shelters rescuing kittens that are set to be euthanized bc they're "sick" (nyc is no kill shelters unless they're sick so a cold could get them killed).

Go to your local shelters. Pet supplies plus by me also has rescue kittens. There are literally 1000s that need forever homes.

Congrats!

North shore animal league.

There is a bit of a kitten season, I believe later summer/early fall but call them to find out. Usually there are always kittens but the young ones go faster than the older cats. Call them or any shelter to check before going.

Since you have a dog, and young kids, please research online about helping your cat integrate into your family. It's important. I recommend creating a safe zone like a bedroom or one room with food, litter box and comfy place to rest. Once kitty is comfortable, you can open the door and let her explore the rest of the house on her own terms. You need controlled introductions to the dog so kitty is not scared and dog isn't aggressive.

All cats are different so just be prepared this one might be very different than the one you watched. Also realize they are work for 13-16+ years so make sure you are willing to do if/when your child slacks off and or leaves the house.

I adopted a stray kitten and an adult cat. I highly reccomend Kent animal shelter riverhead. They take very good care of the animals and are no kill shelter. They are very helpful as well and can lead ypou in the right direction

It is kitten season now. You should have no issue finding one.
