Subpoena for Jury Duty??
So apparently I had gotten a jury summons at my IL's home address. I've never lived there or received any mail there so I have no idea how they even got that address for me. Now, at that same address, I have received a subpoena for failure to respond to the jury summons. Apparently it was received awhile ago because it said I needed to appear on June 10th, 2016 at 9:00 AM. Clearly, this did not happen. I only opened the letter today. Now it says I can receive a fine up to $1,000 or imprisonment. What the fluck?! What do I do now??
ETA: My ILs live in Queens and I live in Nassau county so I don't think I even CAN serve in Queens County. Also, there's a form at the bottom with questions like if my address changed but nowhere to send it back to. I was supposed to bring it with me on June 10th.

If you don't live there, they have no leg to stand on.

I thought so. I mean I've NEVER lived there. If they want a copy of my mortgage, bills, deed to my house, they are more than welcome to it!

You just have to write a letter stating that you are not a Queens resident and provide proof of your residence in Nassau county. This happen to me when I moved from Queens to the Bronx.

this. same thing happened to me when I moved from LI to Queens and got a summons for LI. I provided proof that I was no longer a resident and it was fine.

do NOT send it back. That equates to "ignoring" it.
Write them a letter stating you never lived there. SHow proof of where you live with a copy of your D/L and ANY utility in your name. That should be fine.

This. Also, it may be moot now that you've already missed the date but if you show up in person (I realize that's probably a huge PITA) with your license and maybe a utility bill they'd dismiss it right away. You'd be done in about a half hour. Every time I've ever gone to jury duty they always get rid of the people who don't live in the county first thing.
