what do i do? school related

my DD is starting kindergarten in september. we live in queens and our zoned school has no before or after care. the earliest i can drop her off is 750 and pick up is 220. i am a teacher and cannot do either of those times. ive tried everything i can to get her into other local schools that do provide before or after care but no luck.

I'm asking everyone i know about finding a person take her and pick her up (i would need three days a week) but so far its turned up nothing. i know i can do care.com but that just scares me to death.

i honestly feel so helpless and down about this because i have no idea what to do. my parents can do it twice a week when they watch my 3 year old but can't commit to five days.

what is up with these schools offering nothing to help working parents? what do other people do??

i want to cry. thanks for reading. any suggestions and advice are greatly appreciated.

I found 2 wonderful sitters through care.com. I also know 4 other people (sister, cousins, co-workers) who found their sitters through care.com. I know it's intially scary, but after talking to sitters on the phone, meeting with them for an interview and doing some trial runs while you are home it eases your comfort level.

Ugh it is such a hard thing. Are you part of your local neighborhood moms group? I know the one I am part of often has people asking and ae able to find moms nearby that are home that an put their kids on the bus. maybe look into that? Or maybe even call the school and explain the situation to see if maybe they know of something local that could work. You can't be the only mom in your neighborhood with this situation. If not, I really have heard of quite a few very good success stories with care.com. Good luck!Chat Icon

I joined my neighborhood Facebook moms group and met 3 babysitters through them. I tried care.com and was not comfortable with many of the people I interviewed, and ultimately felt better knowing people from the area, that knew other people I knew

Do you have a Y? Or a daycare nearby that does aftercare?

I am in the city too, my DS' school does not have before care but they do have aftercare until 6pm and it is run by the Y.

Are there any day cares around? Some centers have before and aftercare. Also a few karate schools in our area offer it as well.
