Injectibles

Hello everyone,
My name is Bree (38) and my husband Chris (39) have been trying for 2 years. For the past 9 months we have been using a fertility doctor. We used clomid with 2 rounds of IUIs, both unsuccessful. Since that is all my insurance would cover, we have been using clomid with timed intercourse. My doctor has just told me this month will be the last for clomid, as it obviously isn't working. I ovulated November 14th, so I'm praying that our last chance works.

My husband just changed our insurance so that we could do more IUIs, but this time we will have to use injectables, which are very expensive but not covered. Does anyone know what kind of injectables and medications the dr is talking about. I have seen a few posts on this forum of people donating their extra meds after they successfully became pregnant. But have no idea what I would need. Please help! Thanks in advance!

Re: Injectibles

It would likely be Gonal-F or Follstim. Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Injectibles

assuming you will follow a pretty standard protocol there aren't too many different medications they will give you to stimulate your follicles.
As PP mentioned Gonal-F and Follistim are pretty standard. Maybe Menopur.
You will also likely need progesterone after the IUI in either oil or suppository form. A lot of RE's will be open to letting you choose if you want to go injection or suppository so you can price shop there.
I know 4 years ago when I was TTC my DD, I was able to get a few donated meds from my RE office. I paid it forward by giving them a ton of meds back once I got pregnant so it's possible if you are OOP, the RE may be able to get you donated meds as well.
Good Luck. Hope your stay on this side is short and sweet!
