Nest
Has anyone has Nest home heating controls installed? If so, what are the Pros/Cons? If not, what other system did you choose? TIA

No con. All pro.
I have 5 and every one is aaweosme.
I also have 4 of the smoke/co2 in the house.
No drawback. I can check the heat while I am away, while I am in bed. It learns your pattern.
No drawback at all.

We started with one neat, and have very quickly added the co2/smoke detector. We're also going to add another 2 co2s, and the ring doorbell.

we just got the nest thermostat a few weeks ago - so far i love it. I like how it will turn down the heat when you aren't home to conserve energy etc, and will turn it back up right before you get home so the house isn't freezing when you get home from work and the heat is actually coming up. it learns your schedule and so far we love it. I am curious to see if it actually saves us money like it says it will....

You can install this yourself.
Ecobee requires a little bit more hand-ons but still self serve.

Not always a direct swap. For instance one of the thermostats I had ran on battery so I didn't have a power wire connected at my boiler. So had to do some rewiring at the boiler to make mine work.

Re: Nest
We tried it but it didn't work with our system because we don't have a C wire (power) running to our thermostat. We would've had to run a line to make it work.

Yes, this is what i was referring to a little bit more work but manageable based on comfort level. I believe these devices are meant for general wiring and not so much for custom this and that features.

Exactly what I said in my post above. One thing you can check, sometimes even if you only have two wires connected there may be a third available wire that isn't being used in your existing wire. If it is, you can use that third wire as your C wire and at your furnace or hvac just have a contractor connect that C wire to your equipment and you won't have to run any additional wiring.
I wouldn't try to do that yourself unless you know what you are doing. I was able to do it easily at my boiler. But I tried to do it to my CAC and I ended up shorting my CAC's system board. Was a $450 repair.

Also on a side note, I prefer Ecobee3 over nest. Ecobee can use remote sensors which is sweet. For example I can put a remote sensor in my bedroom and tell the Ecobee to maintain 70 degrees at the thermostat, but after 10pm to switch to the remote sensor and maintain 70 in the bedroom. The rooms in my house run different temps so I set the ecobee to maintain what room I want at certain times. Very sweet feature.

We have two Nest thermostats plus the CO2 detectors. We love it although we rarely fuss or adjust it. We want to make our whole house a Smart Home soon!
