Re: House rental
I would start right now. We already booked our 2 houses on Fire Island for July and August. Personally, I like the laid back vibe of Fire Island but there is still a fun nightlife and no driving. I'm pretty out of touch with Hamptons night life now but Montauk is fun!

How did you find the houses? What do you do in Fire Island? Thanks!

Re: House rental
We tried to book a house on FI for a Bach party, but no houses had just weekends available. A house for a full week is $$$$. So we stayed at a hotel. We were in ocean beach. There is a decent night life there. Bars and dancing. During the day it's mostly just beach and eating.

The Ocean Beach section of FI is a lot of fun - lots of restaurants and bars at night and the beach and cute little shops during the day.

Re: House rental
Book ASAP!
My friends and I booked our Hamptons house about two months ago, and there were barely any dates left.
As far as things to do, we stay at the house the whole time, so I couldn't tell you from that perspective.
There are three wineries in the Hamptons.
Flynn's on Fire Island is fun. My only issue with Fire Island is that since you can't drive there, you need to lug everything on the ferry and to the house. Yes, many of the homeowners let you use their carts, but, well, I pack very heavily lol.

Re: House rental
For nightlife Montauk or Southampton are your best bets in the hamptons. I would check out VRBO and homeaway...even airbnb might help.

One we knew of just from being renters there for years. The other one we found on Craigs list I think.
As far as what we do...we go to the beach all day. Then, at night, it depends on where we are and what day of the week it is. There is the most to do at night in Ocean Beach. OB real estate is very pricey so look in Seaview and Corneille Estates. We stay in Corneille Estates. You take the OB ferry and it's a little bit of a walk but its fine. Its an easy walk back into OB for nightlife. Also, you can drink, play games and bring music on the beach on Corneille whereas you can't do ANYTHING but sip water in OB.
Seaview is in the middle of OB and OBP so you can walk to Flynns from there too. That's like a 10 minute walk. OB is like a 15-20 minute walk from Seaview.
We also like Kismet but its much more quiet there. There is only the Inn or Surfs Out and it's mellow nightlife. Fun, but mellow. I would say OB is your best bet. Also, if you end up in a different town, there are also lateral ferries you can take to get to OB or the water taxi. If you have any other questions, FM me.

I also like Corneille Estates, convenient to all Ocean Beach has to offer, but removed from the hustle/bustle.

The houses are around 2,500 plus a night. Anyone know of any nice hotels on the beach in either Fire Island or in South Hampton?

Re: House rental
I don't know if there are hotels ON the beach in FI. There's the Fire Island Hotel in OBP, The Palms in OB and Margarita Villas in Kismet.
