Taking kids on vacation alone
My kids will be 5 & 7 this summer. We always do small trips but this year we are going to Disney in September. Dh just started a new job and doesn't have the vacation time to take off. I still want to take my kids away. I was thinking Hershey, maybe Philadelphia. My mom thinks this is a bad idea. She is worried about me traveling alone with them. Do you take your kids on vacation by yourself without any help?

Re: Taking kids on vacation alone
I have several times starting when my kids were those ages. I've taken week long vacations with them both by car and by plane and we always have a blast! At those ages, they are fun and not very high maintenance. Go for it!

Re: Taking kids on vacation alone
No but that's because I'm a special breed and I really hate driving. Especially off of Long Island. I have major anxiety driving when I don't know where I am going or have to go over bridges, through the city, etc
If i could fly out of Islip with my daughter and get an Uber to the resort I would be fine.
Driving anywhere else, no
I also think if I lived in NJ or PA or something I would be more amenable to it. The thought of driving through the city and over the bridges just gives me massive anxiety. I'm way too nervous a driver.

In a heartbeat. Dd and I have gone several places by ourselves and will continue to do so even when baby#2 is born but traveling doesn't bother me and I just go with the flow.

Re: Taking kids on vacation alone
Not both of them but I am a baby when it comes to that but they are only now 3 and 6 when they are both older I would be more willing too. 5 and 7 is probably a good age I would consider it. Though either way I would probably ask my mom if she wanted to come with us just so I have an extra pair of hands so if one wanted to go on a ride and another one doesn't one can stay with the other adult.

Taking kids on vacation alone
I take them to visit my sister so I'm not alone the whole time but travel often an 8 hour day between ferries and driving by myself. I've done it since they were 1.5 and 4 with no issues so I think I'd be confident at their ages.

I'm most likely going to be flying alone with a 9 mo and a 3 yo this summer, so my answer would be yes.

Taking kids on vacation alone
I always take my kids on vacation alone. Camping, Disney, Hershey, Cruises, etc. I don't think I would feel comfy traveling out of the country on a non cruise vacation alone though. But to Hershey...you should definitely go! It's actually nice, you can just worry about yourself and the kids and not the additional "child" coming along LOL.

My girls are younger, but I think at 5 and 7 it would be fine and a lot of fun. Depends on the children though.

Yes many times. Dh is often working when we want to go away!! We've done Hershey, Great wolf lodge, and Universal. Next year I am going to take my youngest two to Disney solo-they will be 5 and 6.

Re: Taking kids on vacation alone
I have done long weekends when DDs were around that age to Philly, sesame place and GWL
The only annoying thing was when one has to go to the bathroom you all have to go, and if only one wants to go on a ride what do you do with the other

Re: Taking kids on vacation alone
I did Philly with 3 kids last year solo. It was surprisingly very easy. I guess I do most of the work during traveling even when with DH. Disney wouldn't be hard either assuming your kids are mature.

Definitely. You could even go to montauk or nyc for a few days and nights. Neither is far and both have totally different types of fun!

Absolutely! DH is gone more often than he is home for work and if I waited for him to take vacations, we'd never go anywhere! I love getting out and exploring with my boys!

Re: Taking kids on vacation alone
I could in the sense I am not afraid to do a vacation alone with them however, I'd rather NOT vacation without DH. For us, vacations are family affairs and I would rather we're all together to make those special memories. That's just me though.

Taking kids on vacation alone
I would definitely do a vacation alone with my DD, but I would probably just go to a place where I could drive for a night or two. I wouldn't want to go on a real vacation with flying without my DH.

Absolutely! Go to Montauk and spend a few days out there. I like staying at the hotels on the sound side down by the docks. You can walk to so much and parking in town for the ocean is free.
I probably would not do Hershey just because of how big the water park area is and how many rides are just for 2. But I would have no problem taking mine to Dutch Wonderland.
