my boys are 3 and 6. the 6 year old is in full-day kindergarten. The 3 year old isn't in any kind of school yet (we just adopted him about a month ago...) They're usually both in bed by 8:30... i wake the older one up for school around 7:30 AM. and the younger one gets up when he gets up LOL (usually 8 or so)

Congratulations! Chat Icon Chat Icon

My kids go to bed between 8:30-9 and wake up at 7:45 ish

Re: Bedtime for 4-5 year olds

DS2 is 4.5 and in FT daycare/preschool. He has a lot of energy and fights bedtime most nights even when he doesn't nap. The goal is for him to be in bed by 9, but there are plenty of nights where he doesn't fall asleep until 9:30 or 10. He's usually up by 6 or 6:30. He falls asleep later and wakes up earlier than my 8 year old. Both of my kids have always gone to bed on the later side and neither slept 12 hours per night. I would like DS2 to sleep more if possible. I'm going to try to get him in bed earlier soon in preparation for K especially since we'll have a newborn right before he starts full day K.

Re: Bedtime for 4-5 year olds

My ds will be 4 in the summer. He goes to preschool every day from about 730-330. Most days we try to have him in bed by 8 at the latest but he doesn't fall right to sleep... he usually stays awake for a while in bed, probably till about 9... although some nights when he's really exhausted he'll fall asleep right away. He wakes up around 630/645 on school days (pretty much the same on the weekend but maybe he'll "sleep in" till 7 or 715) . It's definitely not enough sleep for him. He usually doesn't nap anymore so by the time I see him late afternoon, he's already cranky & exhausted but he refuses to nap at school & he's not good at falling asleep & wakes up too early no matter what.

DD is 5 and has a bedtime of 8pm. She is in full time preschool and has to be up for the bus at 6am. She also has ASD and sometimes sleeping is a huge issue, so we give her 5 to 10 mg of melatonin to help her sleep on those nights.
