Other: DH and I love Queens but we do talk about eventually heading for a quieter pace of life. We adore the Catskills and have been scoping out neighborhoods up there. But then we also think of being old + dealing with snow.
No plans or a timeline though; I love my job and want to stay there for a long time.

10 years, when I am 60.
I'd like to keep my co-op up here and buy a small 2 bedroom house in SC near the water, split our time between both places.
Limit the number of bedrooms = limit the number of guests.

you know I was always a lifer but recently, I can see getting the heck out of dodge.
As I get older I am more and more sick of the weather.
As a NYC resident I am annoyed at my increasing property and income taxes.
Word is Trump is doing away w city and state tax writeoff...so living here is about to get a whole lot MORE expensive.
I stay for my family and as DOE employee I am pretty tied in until I retire, I would never see my salary elsewhere.
But I totally see why people go if they can.

I'm more on a countdown of when I can stop working, which may eventually lead to leaving LI. Considering I have 3 kids under age 4, including a newborn(!), it's not going to be for a looong time!

we left in july for FL and we couldn't be happier. the work/life balance is so much better here and we are making more money now than we did there to boot.
For anyone on the fence, it's hard to make the decision, but once you do, it is worth it!

We're not really in a countdown, but DW and I have discussed about seriously talking about moving after DC are either in college out of state, or done with college if they are going on LI. We made decide not to move, but we're going to definitely look into it.
