Scheduled induction or c-section
I'm almost 24 weeks. Due to being over 35-I'll be 37 when baby comes, they are going to have me deliver around 39 weeks. My doctor will do either scheduled induction or scheduled c-section
Need thoughts
Thank you

Scheduled induction or c-section
If age is the only factor I would decline both options and maybe find a new doctor.

Scheduled induction or c-section
I agree, if there is no medical reason for induction or a scheduled c section, I don't see why you would put yourself through that. Age alone shouldn't influence your delivery method or timing, not sure what 1 week would really do anyway? And you're only 37.

Re: Scheduled induction or c-section
I was over 35 when I had my DD. There was never a mention of being induced early or a c section. AND I had pregnancy induced high Blood pressure from my 2nd tri on. And still there wasn't even a MENTION of that.
That's pretty insane if that's the only reason. there is no reason a woman even OLDER than 37 can't go to term and deliver on her own.
I'd question my doctor's motives. And find a new doctor ASAP. I have never heard of such a thing

Re: Scheduled induction or c-section
I love my DR, so I don't want to find a new one. I'm in Ohio now, so finding a DR that I liked was hard enough

Re: Scheduled induction or c-section
Then you need to ask what the reasoning is behind it. If it's just age you refuse. It's important to advocate for yourself. There is no reason to have a c section just because you are 37.

Scheduled induction or c-section
I would do research, ask a ton of questions, and advocate for yourself. No need for early deliver, induction, or cs just bc of age. Discuss added monitoring to make sure baby is happy.

There is no reason that you have to deliver early or by induction or c-section just because you are over 35. I was 34 1/2 when I gave birth to my 1st son (without induction or c-section) and was a month away from 38 when I had my second and again delivered without induction or c-section.
I would look for a new doctor.

Scheduled induction or c-section
I had both of my kids over 35 - both of them naturally, my first was born at 42 weeks I was fine, he was fine - my doctor offered me an induction at 41 weeks, I declined and that was it.
I am aghast that a doctor would just schedule a medically unnecessary c-section for you this early. Very awful.

Re: Scheduled induction or c-section
I agree with previous comments. I'm 37 and currently 39.5 weeks. It has never been suggested that I induce because of my age. I told my doctor that I plan to wait until 41 weeks (I had my other two at 41 weeks) to schedule an induction and she was fine with that. I would get another opinion.

That's the craziest thing I have ever heard. I'd question the doctor. I'd find a new one quick if he pushed it.

Re: Scheduled induction or c-section
I agree with others I would question why?? I've never heard of that. As for as inductions, I was under 30 when I had my daughter and had a scheduled induction for other reasons. It went very smoothly and I had a great delivery.

Re: Scheduled induction or c-section
Say to no to both.
Unless there is a true medical reason, you can say no...IF that's what you want.
Delivering early is not without risk, even at 39 weeks. But if I had to choose I'd definitely go for an induction.

Scheduled induction or c-section
Talk to your doctor. It should be your decision either way if there is no emergency. And no option will have zero risk. Delivery at 39 weeks isn't what my doctor recommended, but maybe it will be what you and your doctor are more comfortable with.

Scheduled induction or c-section
I would decline both options and wait until you are past your due date to induce, if necessary. I had my daughter a few months before I turned 38--age alone is not a reason to induce--40 weeks is full term- I would not take steps to deliver early unless there were medical reasons putting you and your child at risk.

I think it's highly unusual that your doctor is suggesting either of these options.
However, if you WANT a scheduled c-section that's a different story.

Re: Scheduled induction or c-section
As long as you have no other underlying conditions, I can't see why this would be necessary. Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable with this and would tell my doctor so and go from there. I hope they wouldn't push. I understand sometimes they require extra monitoring for what they consider "advanced maternal age" (a name I HATE by the way) but I'd hope they'd just look out for any complications rather than jump the gun and induce or schedule a c-section.
That being said, if it's something you WANT to do, that's your decision. I had a wonderful induction experience (40w3d due to low fluid) and I would absolutely go that route over a c-section any day. C-sections scare me- I give it up to you c-section mommas!

Re: Scheduled induction or c-section
I've heard that there could be placenta concerns as someone who's AMA gets closer to 40 weeks. However, that should be a reason to monitor you closely with NSTs and/or ultrasounds not a blanket rush to an induction or c-section.
I'm 38 and my OB was willing to let me try VBA2C if I wanted, but since I ended up with c-sections, I chose to schedule another one. My OB agreed that I'd probably end up with one anyway. I delivered my other kids at 29 and 33 and this pregnancy has actually been my easiest and least monitored one.
I'd talk with your doctor more about the reasoning and push for more monitoring before rushing into induction or a c-section. If your body isn't ready for an induction, you might end up with a c-section, and without medical reason, it doesn't seem necessary to schedule delivery then.

Re: Scheduled induction or c-section
I agree with everyone else on here. I'll be almost 36 when I deliver my next one and my dr told me I'm still relatively young for having a baby if I wanted to try for another.
I understand liking your dr and not wanting to change, but from an outsiders perspective it doesn't sound like he has your best interest in mind. If I would be worried if I stayed with him and refused both he would push for a c section whe you do go into labor. If anything I wouldn't be induced before 40 weeks because you do risk a section of your body isn't ready.

Scheduled induction or c-section
I was 38 and My sis was 41 when we had out kids. Neither of us were scheduled for anything. Both our Drs told us we would have the baby what ever way was best for us and the baby....her son ended up breech and she had a Csection but that was the only reason. Otherwise Dr had no issues with a vaginal birth.
I tried for vaginal but ended up with Csection because my DS had his are over his head and after a long time of pushed he just wasn't cooperating.
I would never have an induction or csection based on age alone.
And 37 is not that old.

Re: Scheduled induction or c-section
I would not accept it based upon age alone. I would only consider if there was a risk to the baby or myself closer to the end. i was over 40 with my last one and the dr. let me go one week late. I went into labor on the day he wanted to induce me. I had postponed the induction. I was 37 with my 3rd and induction was never mentioned. I would definitely advocate for yourself.

Scheduled induction or c-section
Unless there was a medical reason, there is absolutely no reason for either. I would refuse, and if I got pushback I would find a new doctor.

The more I think about this the more disturbing I find it. I almost feel like the doctor is totally shady to suggest this

Re: Scheduled induction or c-section
Agree with others. Major red flags for me would be that they're not letting u complete the 40 weeks but also that they're not allowing ur body to deliver on it's own, when ur body is ready. Yes, u can def talk to ur dr, ask questions, but what would worry me is that if he's willing to go for inductions and csections right away, most likely he'll use any little thing (that can actually be normal) and make it seem like a reason for needing an induction/csection. Sorry mommy but I wouldn't let more time pass and I'd def look for another dr or midwife like now.
