Closing date question

We finally got our closing date yesterday. Its two days before the on or about ends. Meaning the on or about was the 1st and the date is the 28th (they have 30 days after the on or about date is what I was told). Could it possibly extend past the date we were given (the 28th)? Meaning suddenly the sellers arent ready to close on the 28th could they get an extension?

I have bothered my mortgage guy too much lol so figured I would ask here :). Thanks!

I would think if closing is finally scheduled it will stay scheduled. Once we all decided on a closing date we closed that date. It was just a matter of coordinating schedules

Thanks! I figured but I have heard it can extend past that date if sellers werent ready to leave. I was just curious if that was a possibility.

The short answer is yes it can expend beyond that date. In NY, there are no hard deadlines.

However, usually when a bank is involved, Sellers don't ask for more time after the date is set. Typically, if they do need more time to move, they may ask to stay after the closing, which would have to be negotiated unless your contract addresses post-closing possession.

Re: Closing date question

you have an approx closing date but your REAL closing date wont be the date you are given. 98% chance that it wont be the date you have been told. Your atty will be telling you the actual closing date MAYBE 4-5 days ahead of time.

Yup. Bought and sold recently and both times we didn't know til last minute. Once bank gives the buyer the green light, there's a 3-day waiting period.

We already got the clear to close. The date was based on the sellers timeline as they are buying something as well.
