Polar Express Riverhead
I know several of you have brought your kids - is it worth it? What age kids is it best for?
Thank you!

Re: Polar Express Riverhead
I took my kids there after doing to one in Essex, and my boys were disappointed. I personally dont think it is worth the $$.

Polar Express Riverhead
It's so crappy...for $53.00 per person it's not worth it at all. You can literally ride the same "trolley" around the Tangier outlets on any given day lol.
They don't allow anyone under 2 either.

Polar Express Riverhead
We went the first year and loved it! But, I've heard it's went downhill drastically since then.

Re: Polar Express Riverhead
It was cute but overpriced. I'll be honest, the one thing that did freak me out a little about it is that you're riding around in a trolley car all over Riverhead on main roads and your kids are just sitting on a wooden bench, NO seatbelts or carseats. I was a bit nervous the whole time, I wouldn't think of putting my kids in a car without being strapped in yet I stuck them on a trolley car. Not a fan.
I think the steam trains would be SO much better and if you've done those already, Riverhead will be a let down.

Re: Polar Express Riverhead
We went in 2014 because we had heard so many good things about the year prior (which may have been the first year). We went again in 2015 because it was just me and my older son so I didn't want to drive to NJ or CT alone. There's a convenience in the traveling to Riverhead. Parking is much easier. And getting out in the "North Pole" is really cute. But it doesn't have the Polar Express feel that the trains do. There's no mystery of what's around you as you're driving - it's clearly Long Island. And it's overpriced. It worked for me for those 2 years for my specific reasons, but wouldn't choose it again. It's also probably better for younger kids.

Polar Express Riverhead
Seems like a complete ripoff for $53 for something that isn't even "authentic". That's Long Island for ya...
