2 Failed Rounds of IVF
Hi All,
Thank you in advance for reading....my sister has been struggling with infertility for some time. After trying naturally for almost a year and a half, she started to see Dr. Palter at Gold Coast. Two colleagues of mine had recommended him as both had had successful IVF's with his practice.
He told her that she was a textbook case and he was 99% percent sure he would have her pregnant within 6 months. After monitoring her first cycle, he concluded that she ovulated late and that this was an easy fix. He recommended she skip an IUI and go straight to a cycle of IVF as he was again, 99% confident she would be pregnant on just 1 cycle. They were able to extract 11 eggs, 5 fertilized - so they put in 2 fresh embryos and froze 3. He tested early and there was a BETA - but the following week her test results were negative and he confirmed she had a chemical. He told her since she had the ability to get pregnant, a 2nd round of IVF with the same protocol should work. She follows the same protocol - day of transfer comes, they unfroze all 3 embryos and only 2 were good for transfer. She just found out yesterday, the cycle failed yet again.
I think what is most disheartening is he never even called personally to discuss her results and case. The nurse called and told her that her test was negative and Dr. Palter needs to go out of town tonight, so you may not hear from him today or even tomorrow. Who doesnt have 5 minutes to make a phone call in the world of cell phones today? This is such an emotional and traumatizing time for many couples seeking his expertise, and you can't even make the time to call? I dont know...just seems so unprofessional.
Aside from that, she understands he is not god, and it is not necessarily his fault that she had 2 failed rounds - but he led her to believe that she wouldnt have any issues - never prepared her for the idea that this may not work...needless to say she is devastated. It breaks my heart to see her have to go through this and as much as I can tell her it will be OK, I understand how you feel, there is not much else I can do. I never had an issue conceiving, I got pregnant 2 times fairly easily, so I am sure that makes it even worse for her.
Anyway, thank you for listening. One of my mothers clients has used Dr. San Roman. Does anyone have an experience they could share? I definitely think whatever doctor she chooses to see, needs to be open to further testing as there has to be something Dr. Palter missed.
Additionally, she rarely saw Dr. Palter through both rounds of her IVF. She just felt like a number and not a patient. She would like to see someone who makes time to see his patients at every appt.
Any other recommendations for other fertility specialists would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you again everyone.

Re: 2 Failed Rounds of IVF
My friend saw San Roman.
She has PCOS and did two IVF's. They worked. She said she loved him.
I'm so sorry to your sister.
I'd check him out, Braverman, Kofinas.
What kind of testing (if any) did she have done?

Re: 2 Failed Rounds of IVF
I actually just posted about him in another thread on behalf of a friend. She has had 3 failed transfer and was never crazy about him.

2 Failed Rounds of IVF
I feel dr palter is good but not for everyone. I know a lot of people were successful with him but for myself I felt like he thought my case wouldn't up his numbers so he kinda pushed me aside.

Thank you for the response. I think they only did the basics..sono of the uterus, Fallopian tubes, minimal genetic testing through blood work.

Re: 2 Failed Rounds of IVF
I did not use this dr, I used RMA in philadelphia, but what bothers me is that I too had 2 failed cycles, and no history of any problems. so right away the dr was like "you're the easiest case I've seen all week."
yeah, OK.. 2 failed IVFs, not so easy huh.
I wish your sister the best on her journey. Hopefully she finds better care.

2 Failed Rounds of IVF
I am sorry your sister is going through this. Infertility is hard!!!!!! I was always told I would get prego right away, it didnt exactly go down like that. It took me 5 FRESH cycles & never had frozen!! I do have 6yr old twins now. Drs can tell you what they think according to blood work & sono, but remember even they cant guarentee anything. Just tell her to take one day at a time. I used Dr. Zapantis.

Re: 2 Failed Rounds of IVF
I did see him and he’s a great Dr but very, very busy. He told me he was going to “stim me like a 40 year old” and I didn’t go through with treatment because I wanted more information, more testing and he does not do immune panels, just genetic. His office is gorgeous though and well run so it stinks she has to go through this. I recommend 1) have her talk to him. Consult ASAP to go over why he thinks things did not work. He may have a good plan for the next step and she should voice what she thinks too. If she still feels slighted, then 2) start consulting around. I consulted with every Dr in the NY area except for RMA and the information from these other drs was so important. Sometimes a cycle may not work out with no reasons but it’s still empowering to find out as much as possible.
