Done having kids... another question
So, I am done and don't use anything right now. As some others said... I know when I ovulate and pull and pray.
I was going to do essure, but read up on so much about it and too scared to do it.
Has anyone had their tubes removed after the fact? How is recovery? I talk about it with DH, but that's as far as it goes. He said he would, but afraid to miss a day of work for recovery bc he owns his own construction business.
Any other ideas? I'm afraid of having something in me and I don't want to go on the pill again. I am 41 and DH and I know we're 100 percent done. I also have insurance through Obamacare so I believe birth control should be covered.

I would at least use condoms when you know you're ovulating. Pull and pray is not truly reliable.

Re: Done having kids... another question
For now I would avoid sex completely when you are ovulating and at other times use a contraceptive gel (they come in prefilled applicators) to supplement the pull and pray. or condoms like PP suggested.

Youve got to be kidding me?!
I had my tubes tied. I didnt have a hard time with recovery but I was younger. About 30-32. I know 2 people that had it done and their recovery was much harder.
Ets: sorry not tied. They burn them together. Forgot the exact terminology.

I could be wrong, but I thought it was more invasive and there was more side effects for a woman to have her tubes tied, easier for a vasectomy.

Agreed. I heard the same thing. We know guys that had it done, but was able to work the after a day of rest. I think his thing is he can't lift for a few days. Who knows. He said he'd do it, but then we never talk about it again.

I would push for the vasectomy - Try to schedule for a Thursday, so he would only lose maybe Friday at work and be able to rest for the weekend. I think when mine did it - it was just no heavy lifting for a few days but it has been the best option!

Youre absolutely correct.
Ets: my comment was in disbelieve over his excuse.

If he agreed to it, I would just schedule it

Re: Done having kids... another question
Does he have Saturday off? My DH got his done on Thursday and was back to work on Friday and was fine. So he could schedule it for later on Friday and take it easy over the weekend and not miss work at all.
I’ve heard the recovery for women is no joke, unless of course you are getting it done when your having a C-section, then obviously the recovery isn’t noticed because the csection recovery is harder.

Done having kids... another question
I had it done in my late 30s. Wasn't a problem. 2 small incisions and all lapriscopic and outpatient. I was back to work right away.

A friend of mine had her tubes tied during her third section, and she actually said the recovery was worse than with just a section on its own.

Done having kids... another question
i had my tubes removed during my c-section. it was my only c, so i can't compare it. but previously i had a similar procedure for an ectopic pregnancy. it's definitely more invasive than for a guy. recovery is a few days. i've actually heard that removing the tubes decreases your chances of cancer. and it's the recommended way to go, as opposed to tying your tubes (per my OB).

He can’t lift anything over 15lbs for 2 weeks.
He’ll be fine. Call and schedule the appt for him. There is no reason he can’t have it done.

While I never had my tubes tied I have had a whole organ removed laparoscopically and I agree that the recovery wasn't bad at all. I went out to dinner the next night. I think the worst part was the shoulder pain from the gas they blow you up with, not the incisions.
