Optimum

Just an FYI, optimum dropped all the Starz and Encore Channels as of yesterday. Lost 15 channels. Almost half of the movie channels I get with the Silver Package.

I called them today to see if they can adjust my bill accordingly or to lower my plan once again. I went straight to the retention department because talking to anyone else is a waste of time. She was able to get me a price lower than the next plan down while keeping the channels I have now. And also upped my internet speed to almost double. The new rate will be for 1 year and I'll see where we stand at that point. Hopefully they negotiate with Starz and we get the channels back. But if not, at least I'm not paying for the premium package anymore

Re: Optimum

You probably had a promotion that ended. We had one, and it ended. But we were going to drop it because we have a jet stream black box. My monthly bill is much lower now.

I saw a commercial recently about optimum dropping all Starz channels. They wanted you to go to some website to try to fight it. We don't have those channels but it's not just a promotion expiring for the OP.

I just read on Facebook, I guess Optimum is having some sort of dispute with that channel.

I feel like I'm the only person who calls, threatens to leave and Optimum says, "see ya!". Twice that happened. I'm sick of the prices but sick of switching every few years. Hoping Starz comes back in a few days.

I'm right there with you. I think it helps they know I don't have Fios available where I live so they just say - suuuurreeee...

Thought lately I am ready to leave. It's crazy the prices.

It was the same for us!!

We were so frustrated with Optimum by that point that we just said "screw it", we'll take our chances without cable. It's been over 4 years and we've never looked back so I'm kind of glad they didn't try to get us to stay.

You’re not alone. They have been that way with me for a while. But this was an actual issue. I pay for premium channels and half of those channels are gone. I got lucky getting a normal person on th phone. There was no back and forth. No haggling. I couldn’t believe it actually lol

I called earlier and also got the 12 mth promotion and upgraded DVR. Starz/Encore hopefully will renegotiate the contract with them soon. The replacement channels suck.

I should do this! I’m so annoyed to be paying the same price for half as much. So you just called and asked to speak to the retention dept?

I'm definitely going to call, I pay for premium channels in my package, so I feel like the discount should be automatic!

ETA: Luckily my parents have Starz through Amazon so I can still watch Outlander. Chat Icon

We have a fire stick and netflix, but that doesn't replace cable to me. I can't be bothered to subscribe to 5 other services to try to get what I get on cable. Plus we need internet through them and landlines. so we just suck it up

I feel the same way! We have Netflix (which I think sucks, lots of good movies were removed) and theres no way I would get rid of cable because I watch a lot of shows on Dest America, History, Science Channel, Smithsonian, Hallmark and News12. I like the convenience of having it all in 1 place instead of going to Hulu, Netflix, etc to find what I want to watch.

I wonder if I should call Optimum to ask for a reduction, I miss the STARZ channels a lot too. Very upset about this. We pay $163/month for the Silver iO package (i dont know if thats premium, we do get HBO and showtime). We have had that package since probably 2015.

I agree with both of you. I really can't be bothered with the hassle to save a few bucks.
Not worth it to me.
I like live TV and a lot of offbeat shit like the gameshow network, old reruns of Archie Bunker and Golden Girls, Lifetime movies etc.
And Netflix is awful. We have it, but what a waste of money. I can never find a movie I want to watch on it.
Every movie I want they say it isn't available on streaming.
I would kill myself if I had to depend on the likes of that for my TV watching.

I agree about Netflix...there are a few series that I will watch on there exclusive to Netflix, but I really only keep it since my son doesn't have cable in his room, only a smart TV and watches cartoons and crap on Netflix.

I use the terrarium tv app on fire stick and it has everything except live tv and it works amazingly well. Kodi is a thing of the past now. I believe a lot of people use an app called mobdro for live tv. I follow troypoint on fb to get all the latest news on firestick stuff. Just figured I’d put that out there for anyone who is on the fence about firestick.

Many of the apps in kodi are being taken down...not updated... slow, buffers etc. No stream available... I was having so many issues with exodus, covenant etc. Then I read up on terrarium and how it’s been around for years without major issues.... a new developer recently took it over and has been updating it and it is amazing.
