Quitting a job

Anyone ever quit a job that they just didn’t like after 3 months? What’s the best way to handle this. Tell them it’s not working out for me? Make some personal issue up? I know I will be putting them in a bind and I’m panicking about telling them.

I did. It's not really much different than quitting any other job. Offer 2 weeks notice.

I wouldn't lie. If it's something fixable, they may try to fix it. For me, it was my manager so they offered to have my report to someone else. I chose to leave anyway, but it felt good that they tried to keep me.

I would jst say it's not a good fit and give two wks if you can tolerate it for that long. Not much they can say if ur being kind and by the book about it.

I guess the problem is that they are really nice and it’s not because I’m in some terrible situation. It’s just extremely boring and I just don’t like the job. The benefits are terrible all around and there’s really no where to move up to. They are also moving offices further away from where I live and this is already my max distance. Unfortunately that’s not happening for awhile or I would use that!

I did this last year and went back to NYC schools due to me being unhappy. I just said it wasn't working out and I am switching to another school that was a better fit for me. They understood

I did exactly that in my 20's. The company itself was great. My boss was super nice. But my position which was new, was soooo BORING.

I called my DH (boyfriend at the time) during my lunch on my first day hysterical crying that I hated it so much and didn't want to go back. I had that feeling on my First Day!!!

I found a job and gave my notice. It was a very long three months. You feel bad doing it; but they will find someone.

Just remember that people quit all the time. If it's not a good fit, prolonging the inevitable won't help. I am sure they have had it happen before. I would be honest about why you are leaving so you don't burn bridges.

i agree with the consensus. you have good, legitimate reasons to give as the explanation.

i agree with the PP: if you don't have something lined up, offer to stay until they find a replacement. this will give you some time to continue your own search while still earning a paycheck... plus it gives you the benefit of leaving on the best of terms and helping you with a good reference.

I left a job after a year. I knew after a month or so that it wasn't going to work out. It was the worst year of my life.

ETA: I told them that it wasn't a good fit. They weren't surprised.

I left a job after a two months. I left my job of 9 years to take this job and wow it was awful. The place was very unorganized and some of the people I worked for were horrific. They expected me to do accounting work when I was hired as the HR manager. I could not do it anymore, they fired people left and right for no reason and it was horrific. I was there for 2 months and they went through so many people in their offices. I gave them 1 day notice, I was offered another job and had to start ASAP. I felt bad about it but looking back that place was very toxic and just not for me.

Just be honest and tell them you feel like this position is not a good fit for you.

Don't feel bad about quitting, you don't have to tell them a reason. They are lucky you are giving them 2 weeks. I've walked off 2 jobs without notice when I was younger. They were both toxic places and I found new positions right away. My office now had a woman working there for a month, she called and quit over the phone last week!
