dance school questions

Dd has been in the same dance school for 2 years and I am debating on trying a new one next year. So I have a few questions to see if it is school specific, or if it is a Nassau county thing (versus a queens thing that I am used to).
Also - if you do dance in the Merrick/Bellmore/East Meadow area, feel free to recommend your dance school if you love them

1 - do they take dance photos (kids in costume individually and as a group)?
2 - can you take photos and/or videos at the recital (not flash photography)
3 - when you get recital tickets, do you get assigned seats or is it first come first serve and you have to wait on line for an hour + in order to get decent seats

Thanks

dance school questions

DD is in dance (but in Suffolk) and this is how her's works:

1) on the day of the dress rehearsal, they do a class photo and individual. You have to let them know a head of time about the individual but they automatically do the class.

2)no pictures or videos of any kind (flash/non flash) at recital---you can only do that at the dress rehearsal.

3)assigned seats for the recital. Tickets go on sale about 6 weeks before the show

dance school questions

My daughter goes to a dance school in Seaford.

1) They have a picture day where individual photos are taken. At recital rehearsal they take the group photo. We are not getting either photo back until after the recital which is a tad annoying but I love our school so I will give them a pass. LOL

2). No pictures or video are allowed. They sell a dvd if you want to buy it. We took pics and video at the dress rehearsal.

3) Our school sells the tickets through ticketmaster. It was hardcore lol You could only get 6 tickets and yes assigned seating. I felt like I was buying tickets to bon jovi they sold out fast!

Yes. Individually and as a group.

You can take pictures, no flash photography. You’re not supposed to take video but everyone does.

Assigned seats. You get the link to the tickets. The tickets go live a specific day and time and everyone logs in and books their sssigned seats.

1. Yes.
2. I believe so. They also sell a dvd for $40
3. Seats are unassigned. There are multiple recitals. My dd is 2.5 so the have an hour long show for all the little classes which I’m told means seats are not an issue.

I can PM you where we go. We had originally tried a different studio in the area and it was horrendous. I’m really happy with our studio. It’s very low key, the other moms are lovely and the teachers are so sweet.

Re: dance school questions

My girls dance in Suffolk at large studio.

1. Dance photos are offere if you want. You schedule a time on a specific day the photographer will be there and your child takes individual photos. They do not do a class photo.
2. You canNOt take any photos or video at the recital. At dress rehearsal you can take video or pictures. A professional video is shot during the recitals that you can buy.
3. It’s assisgned seating. You mail in the forms to purchase your tickets with payment and than it’s done in the order in which it’s received.

Re: dance school questions

1 - yes, they bring in a photographer, but taking photos isn't mandatory. Individual photos were on a weekend day and group photos at dress rehearsal. We were always busy on individual photo day so far, so I brought them to Picture People with their dance outfits.
2 - I can't remember if they told us not to, but many parents were taking photos and videos. They also sold a DVD.
3 - we used an online system and it wasn't very good - it seemed like a good idea, but the system was buggy and couldn't handle the number of people trying to get tickets at once.

Re: dance school questions

They have a photographer. They take both individual and group photos at the dress rehearsal. You can not take photo or video during the actual performance, only at the rehearsal. The benefit of the rehearsal is you get front row, and can take as many photos of your kid as you want.

You can buy a DVD of the entire performance.

They have a pull out lotto system where you put your hand in a box for four tickets for your show day and time. There are shows for multiple days, your kid is on one day. You can then buy extra tickets. So you are not sitting with family.

Yes our studio takes dance photos. You get an individual pose and a group photo. They actually use Patken.

They ask that you do not use your own video and cameras on the day of the recital but I always video tape my daughters number with my video camera. I keep it discrete and only video her number, not the entire show! We pay $30 for a dvd of the recital but I like to have a copy on my own camera too.

Seats are not assigned. We buy tickets $24ea and on the day of recital it’s a first come first serve basis. So you have to get there early, to get online outside of the building.

We’re in South West Nassau.

Re: dance school questions

Dance school on a different area.
It’s an old school.
1. No dance photos
2. No photos/video at recital... but most people did anyway
3. Recital seating was first come, first serve. I have mixed feelings about this. We got decent seats. People were well behaved and even though we were towards the back... we had a great view. My daughter’s preschool started selling assigned seats to their show and the sale was chaos. Both in person and online.

Personally, I think these are annoying at this time of year, but minor issues over the course of the year. I re-enrolled because my school is the right level of serious but not too serious teaching for her age. DD enjoys it, but chances are she will do it for a year or two for fun. If she wants to be serious, school offers it later.

Re: dance school questions

DD dances in Suffolk:

1 - do they take dance photos (kids in costume individually and as a group)? Yes, both

2 - can you take photos and/or videos at the recital (not flash photography) No, this is pretty standard for almost all dance studios

3 - when you get recital tickets, do you get assigned seats or is it first come first serve and you have to wait on line for an hour + in order to get decent seats - Its first come first serve, assigned seating... but no line. Its all done online, think like ticketmaster. However, if you pre-register for the following fall by a certain date, you get "pre-sale" dates to purchase tickets.
