Pool Party

My 6 year old was invited to a pool party at New York Sports Club and Im a little worried. He takes swimming lessons but he is still not the most comfortable in water, he hates to jump in. He wants to go so bad, thinks that he can just wear a bubble or something that goes around his waist that they use at the Y. What happens at these parties? Should I just skip it? I feel bad but on the other hand I feel like I should just go and let him figure it out.
I will be staying the whole time at the party.
Thanks so much!

My 6yo can't swim without a flotation device and neither can at least half of her friends. I'd just bring whatever he typically uses. Dd just swims in a regular life vest bc she likes that she can move her arms freely.

Re: Pool Party

We had one for dd at saf t swim and have been to several there. They give each kid a quick swimmimg test before it starts and anyone they feel isn't strong enough has to wear swimmies that they provide or you can bring a puddle jumper/life vest of your own.
No parents went in, but they could have I guess.
I also watch her like a hawk the entire time

Re: Pool Party

Usually they stay where they can stand... at least the parties I’ve been to. I wouldn’t stress it!

We were just at a pool party at NYSC in deer park a few weeks ago. My 4yo takes lessons but can't swim yet. They had all the kids get in one at a time to see if they needed a life vest or not. We put one on my DD and she had a blast. There was also a little boy there wearing a puddle jumper.

ETA they supplied life vests
