Gluten

I’ve been having terrible skin issues for ages with intermittent stomach problems. A homeopathic pharmacist suggested it may all have something to do with gluten so I am thinking about getting tested. Anyone know how or who I might see to get this done? Thank you.

GI doc or your primary care physician can run blood work for celiac disease.

It's a blood test. If numbers are high then GI likes to do a biopsy to confirm it, but we chose not to do it with our DC.

Re: Gluten

If you suspect gluten as the culprit, you can also do an elimination diet on your own while you wait to see a doctor. Start eliminating gluten from your diet and you should start to notice results if it was the cause. It's not that hard to do.

I had really bad eczema on my hands for about 9 years, eliminated gluten from my diet and within a couple of months, my hands were better than they had ever been.

i second this idea.
i had a friend who started to get a bumpiness and "thickening" of the skin around her eyes. she always looked tired and she would say that it hurt. she did an elimination diet and tested all the things she ate. found out eggs and gluten were the triggers.

she looks like a much younger, better rested version of herself since she eliminated those items from her diet.

Go see a GI before you eliminate gluten. They can do a blood test and an endoscopy but neither are accurate if you're not eating gluten at the time. If it's negative for celiac you can always try eliminating anyway to set if it helps.

Dh waited a few months to get in with a good gastro and eliminated gluten in the meantime. He was told it sounds like he should never eat gluten again but they can't do any testing unless he wants to go back on it for several weeks which they didn't recommend.

If you want to go for blood work, you need to be eating gluten for it to be accurate.
