I just had another thought though - I do feel bad for the people that cannot afford to take their kid there on a regular day. I mean you pay at LEAST 50 bucks and thats without a lot of extras. I feel bad for those that wanted to to something nice for their kid and were let down. Honestly there were probably a ton of people that CAN afford it and just wanted to do it just because and the people that should have been able to do it and couldnt. Now I am sad thinking about it.

I kind of agree too.
I really think the company itself did not think this one through.
It sounded like a hot mess waiting to happen....and it was

But all those parents need to do is sign up for free to the bear club and during a kids birthday Month they get to pay their age. So no one is actually getting left out. It’s just the stupid parents who didn’t read.

You can only get a special birthday bear. This event was for anything they had in stock, with the exception of Pokemon I think.

But the kids don’t know this unless the parents tell them. I fully blame crazy parents on this one.

Well yeah, kids never really know they are missing out on something like this unless we tell them. I totally agree that no children's lives were RUINED because of this and parents are being insanely dramatic. But I was just pointing out that I get the draw for the parents to want to go and get something the kids really like for a really good price. DD is young so she'd like the birthday treat bear but I know my niece would rather an actual character, ya know?

I dont think it is necessarily their fault, ill planned, maybe. But Im tired of entitled parents and kids whining about crap like this. Its a stuffed animal. No company can do anything nice without some parents claiming their child has been ruined forever now bc they didnt get an $10 bear. Honestly, as a parent, you dont take your kids to this kind of sh!t unless you plan on being online at 6am. Of course they ran out of stuff, but it was advertised as "while supplies last", as are most promotions. If your kid is upset, you should have set up the expectation that we will go and see how it is but that if the line is really long (which people shouldve KNOWN it would be) then we arent waiting. There is no stuffed animal worth that kind of aggravation and most kids have enough crap, if missing out on a stuff animal ruins their day and causes them to need years of therapy, then your kid is spoiled.

It’s the parents. I cannot believe they said that their kids lives were ruined over a bear. Take a tour of a cancer ward in a hospital. That will change your perspective real quick.

Ha probably! But really there was a lot of parents saying it ruined their whole day and the kids were "devastated". That's just poor planning/parenting on the parents behalf.

Don't they have a program where you pay your age on your birthday too? I can't imagine waiting on line for a bear. I was at Smithhaven yesterday and the line was out past Barnes & Noble and then wrapped around the stores to the parking lot.

Re: Build a Bear Pay your Age Day an Epic Fail

Are the people that were at the back of the line that stupid? How did they not realize that it would be impossible for them to ever get to the front of the line? There are only so many hours that the store is open and you have to figure each kid is going to take at least 15 minutes in the store. Once you hit a certain point in the line, there's no way you'd get to the front or even middle of the line during business hours. I get that it was poorly executed by the company, but you'd have to be a moron to not realize there's a chance you could wait for hours and end up going home empty handed.

I think people complain a ton on social media because nowadays companies feel forced to "make it right". Now everyone got a $15 coupon so it kinda worked.

Re: Build a Bear Pay your Age Day an Epic Fail

How is it worth it to wait in a line for 6 hours (WITH YOUR KIDS) to save $20-$40 or so? Plus choosing the bear and stuffing it only takes like 20 min. Additionally, it will be PACKED inside the store and totally Stressful/not fun.

Why would someone choose to do that?

This was us. Since we bought our house, things have been HARD. I was excited to take DS after work yesterday and didnt even get the opportunity. Realistically, hes going to be 2 next month, so its not like he would have remembered the experience, but it would have been nice to get the chance to..

Re: Build a Bear Pay your Age Day an Epic Fail

I saw people on my FB saying they wanted to go at like 6 pm.
I am not sure how they expected anything to be left at that point.
People go nuts for shit like this.

Give up the Starbucks, dessert, a manicure, whatever...for a few weeks, bank the money and go on a quiet, peaceful day

It's crazy how insane people get over something like this... seriously who wants to wait hours in line, with their child no less, to save what, $15? I just took my DD to a build a bear while we were on vacation, the bear we picked was like $15 or $16 then you pay a ton more for the outfit/thing to record your voice...

exactly! I kind of feel bad for anyone that was waiting for this because they normally can't afford it, but really it was just the bear that's discounted. So they'd have to disappoint their child when they can't afford all the accessories anyway.

Looking at the videos, it's really just a ton of people dragging their kids along for the thrill of saving a few bucks. Standing online for hours getting multiple venti Starbucks drinks and overpriced snacks to deal with the wait. Like if you didn't pay for those Starbucks and snacks, you could have just paid full price for the bear and not lost 4+ hours of your time.

lol so true!

Re: Build a Bear Pay your Age Day an Epic Fail

I guess it was probably good publicity for the company because even though it was a shitshow for one day, everyone is talking about it and it's going to bring in more business with the $15 coupons they are giving out. I was waiting to bring DS until he was a little older, but I'll bring him now cause I have a coupon lol. So it seems their marketing strategy worked.
