Elf on the Shelf
Both my kids want one. I’m not sure how this works. Do I buy the box with them?Or does it just arrive in the house? Do we open the box together? Or does the elf just appear? Help? I’m not sure how to start this tradition (that I’m dreading). TIA!

Re: Elf on the Shelf
For us, I bought it in the box and then one day it just appeared. I always start it on Dec 1 because I can't deal with it for much longer.
Also- word of advice- don't get too fancy. I just move it shelf to shelf, location to location and DD loves it. Set the expectations low from the start or you will be kicking yourself come Christmas!

all of this. And the only reason why I did the stupid thing is because my dad got one for their house I thanked my dad for that they have my nephew only on the weekends and my kids mostly go their only on the weekend so he doesn't have to move the stupid thing every night!!
I will say though I think some people do some special thing to introduce him but I didn't know that until after one showed up at my house!

Re: Elf on the Shelf
Our Elf does not show up until we put up our Christmas tree. After that we just move him from place to place. We don't make him do anything fancy.

Re: Elf on the Shelf
My DD got it as a gift one year from my SIL (Thanks for nothing, Kat! ) and it came in a whole box with a certificate - where you name the elf (from what I can remember). I think it also came with a hardcover book explaining the tradition to the kids.
