Really unbelievable. I wonder why they felt the need to flee the scene of the first accident....

Could have had no licence, no insurance, etc.
Could have been drunk at the time or on drugs
Whatever it was they didn't want the cops looking at them.
terrible decision

I would assume the driver was not legally permitted to be driving. That’s why most people flee.

DH said more than 50% of the people he would pull over or respond to an accident for when he worked in NYC were either unlicensed, uninsured, or the car was not registered.
So, yeah

train accident

My coworker was actually there are saw it all happen. So horrible. She (my coworker) was 2 cars behind the train gates. After impact, the car in front of her turned around and high-tailed it outta there, so my worker and her 11 year old daughter were directly in front of the tracks. The woman in the car behind my coworker said that it was her car that the men had initially hit - and the reason why they were trying to get away quickly. From my understanding, they now have surveillance of the men leaving a bar shortly before the car accident, so.....
So friggin horrible. What needless deaths. And my coworker was so shaken up that she couldn't even drive home. An officer had to drive her car :(

Maybe that’s why they fled because the driver was drinking and didn’t want to get a DUI. Probably wasnt making the best judgement if he was impaired. I do feel bad for the families and that they lost their lives for something so senseless and a horrible decision made by the driver.

If you drive without a license do you get arrested on the spot? How do people take this risk!? My initial thought was maybe they were here illegally... but for those who are here legally what is stopping them from getting the license? !

Not sure, I'll ask DH
I know in his case, there were a lot of undocumented people in the area he worked, so that may be the issue.
Also, a lot of people have their licences suspended for DWI and other things and still just drive, so there is that too.

You can but people I know have had their car taken away, or someone had to get them etc. It depends on the cop I guess.

train accident

The men identified were Miguel Angel Jimenez Luna, 36, and Saul Martinez Caravantes, 28, both of Westbury, Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman Aaron Donovan said.

The third person's identity will not be available for another week to 10 days as the Nassau County medical examiner’s office awaits DNA results, he said.

They must have been blown to smithereens. I would hate to be the one tasked to finding DNA evidence in this mess.

Good call, driver.

I can not even imagine witnessing something like that. She must be in a state of shock.

And the poor engineers driving those trains. Those guys deal with a lot of shit. I felt bad for the one who stuck the guy in Freeport earlier in the day too. My job isn't so awesome but at least I don't have to worry about killing anyone while I'm chugging along just doing my thing.
