slight thyroid issue
Hi ladies,
I just had my screening bloodwork done and the doctor said that in order to begin an ivf cycle you are supposted to have a thyroid lower than a 2.5 Mine is at a 2.55 which obviously is so close. Even the nurse practitioner said she wasn't sure why the doctor needed to put me on medication when it is technically still within the normal range and only slightly over. No one in our family ever had a thyroid issue or needed to be put on medication for this. Does having a sluggish thyroid by only a little cause you to have infertility problems? Thank you all, I just don't want to have to be put on another medication if it's not really that necessary to begin with. Also are there other ways to help thyroid instead of medication?
Thanks!

Re: slight thyroid issue
you are very close to the normal range - but yes, i had thyroid issues and have been placed on medication for it and my levels are now normal.
I was told that low levels of thyroid hormone can interfere with the release of an egg from your ovary which impairs fertility.
Naturally I have heard that altering your diet, reduce or eliminate caffeine and sugar and going gluten free can help.
My does of synthroid is only 25 mg a day, and although my numbers were higher than yours, overall I have felt a lot better overall - im less tired and cranky and i fell like my stomach has been much better too -

Re: slight thyroid issue
Thyroid issues can (and do) cause miscarriages. If it's slightly elevated now, it could go higher once you're pregnant and cause a m/c. I can't even count the number of people who I know that have lost their babies b/c of thyroid problems. I'd go on the medication and also see an endocrinologist.

Re: slight thyroid issue
My thyroid is up and down in this whole getting pregnant area. I was on thyroid right after transfer and during pregnancy since it can effect brain development. After giving birth weaned off and now on thyroid meds again for a retreival soon.

I didn't have thyroid issues until after my transfer/became pregnant.
