Re: Puerto Rico

I did a lot of research into PR a few years back and to be honest they didn't have a lot, if any, all inclusives.
Some very nice looking resorts but All Inclusive seem to be more of a Mexico/DR thing from my experience.

We stayed at Marriott Stellaris and it was GREAT for kids. It's in the Condado Beach area, and the hotel has a pool slide, swim up bar (milkshakes for kids), and various kids activities. It's not all inclusive, none really are there. We took a taxi to the forts in Old San Juan, which were so cool. Then we booked a trip with East Island Excursions to snorkel. THAT was awesome!! We went to this deserted island, that was gorg! There was a slide off the boat, they fed us lunch, and we saw lots of fish, and even a baby shark.

Re: Puerto Rico

I’ve been many times.

I stopped going when mosquito borne diseases took off. A coworker of mine got Chicagunya when on vacation over there and I was pregnant so it scared me out of traveling recently. But mosquitoes probably cover lots of the Caribbean.

I definitely think all inclusive is not the way to go in PR. The food is excellent at so many restaurants. It’s also NOT expensive like the rest of the Caribbean. The steak is amazing, fish is amazing and junk food is amazing. Even their coffee and bread is amazing. We have stayed at that Marriott that PP mentioned multiple times and it’s really nice. The casino and hotel actually becomes a going out destination for locals on the nice weekends and has that young, party atmosphere. We have also stayed in Old San Juan at the Sheraton (it’s ok), somewhere on a beach in the north middle of the island, and at a friends apartment by Broken Boat Beach (which was beautiful and mostly full of Americans who grew up in PR with now vacation homes). I’ve wanted to stay in fajardo which is by the rainforest.

Things to do:
Rainforest
Snorkeling tours (it’s OK as far as snorkeling goes)
Beaches: from the ones by the hotel to the ones that you need to drive to to the ones that sell food on a strip, they are all fun
Old San Juan (beautiful city and very historic and walkable)
Bioluminescent kayaking (close to rainforest)

We went at the height of the Zika issue, and didn't see a single mosquito on the beach. Way too windy in PR on the beaches for Mosquitos.

A few years back we stayed at El Conquistador- it was amazing. They have a beautiful pool with swim up bar and a private beach you get to by boat. It is a bit of a ride from the airport, but it was such a beautiful property that i didn't mind.
