Fire Island Questions...
Which is a better day trip with family, one child - Davis Park Ocean Beach
I hear Ocean Beach has more to do, but strict? Can't play ball on the beach ?

Re: Fire Island Questions...
In Ocean Beach you can't eat on the beach. And are only allowed to drink water out of a clear bottle. I'm sure you aren't allowed to sneeze or scratch your ass either. No thanks.

Besides the rules, ocean beach has a very long walk to the beach. Davis is just a quick walk. For a day trip it has everything you need. Snack bars, ice cream, playground, bathrooms, beach.

Re: Fire Island Questions...
I would go to Sailor's Haven, there are no rules about eating on the beach, etc. We LOVE it there. You take the Sayville Ferry. You can walk in the sunken forest (bring bug spray), visit the visitor's center (not open monday or tuesday), get your national parks passport stamped. The beach is so nice, and never crowded during the week. We just went on Wednesday and there were about 15 families. There is a concession stand, ice cream, a bar (open weekends). No stores, etc. It's a GREAT place, we love it so much and look forward to it!

DH and I have been thinking about doing this with our kids, but I'm wondering if we are allowed to bring a stroller on the ferry?

You can definitely bring strollers on the ferry.

You can bring whatever you want on the ferry, strollers, wagons, beach carts, coolers, etc. There is a boardwalk to the beach, then you have to climb down steps though to get onto the beach.
