Re: Social Distancing—Hanging out with Friends

People's posts don't bother or upset me in the least. Everyone is free to post whatever they want. I can scroll past whatever doesn't interest me. I don't think I've actually seen anyone on my feed post restaurant quality dishes or something that looks good. It's usually a pic of something sloppy or unappetizing. If you post something you open yourself to people's commentary. Such is life.

The part I least understand is why put it on social media? I've seen several people posting photos posing with extended family that they definitely don't live with. If you insist on breaking the rules, why do you need to flaunt it to everyone? At first I assumed they were posting old photos but their caption proved otherwise.

Exactly. We can’t stop people from not doing the right thing but why are you blatantly showing it off?

Because nobody knows how to function in their lives without posting it on social media. Can't enjoy a hike, time with your kids, vacations, getting your hair done etc without posting it. If it's not on social media it never happened apparently.

You beat me to it lol... don't forget pics of every meal and every gym squat lol my absolute favorite though is posting videos of a concert while you're at the concert. How about you sit back and actually enjoy the concert you paid money to attend and post your blurry out of focus videos after it's over. People forgot how to live in the moment when social media was invented.

Well, I post pics of meals I eat. Not because I don’t know how to live in the moment. I can live in the moment, thank you very much. I am doing a quarantine album of food for myself. That way I can look back on it for myself. I’m not out to impress anyone. If you don’t like it, then scroll past it. Chat Icon

That is great. Why do you need to post it though? Why not take the pic and make an album for yourself?

Because that is where I keep it. I am also all alone and have no social interaction. I like to share it with my family and friends in NY. I don’t want to keep it for myself. I’m tired of myself at this point. So before judging someone, think about where that person is at.

ETA: I also studied culinary arts and restaurant management (even though I never really did that for a living afterwards) and want to share it with those friends as well...

Yeah it may not be a picture that I would post, but I am sure I have plenty of pics that I post that you wouldn't. People get so upset about what's on social media but everyone has the option of not following certain people or just not going on social media. The obnoxious posts trying to sell things are the only things that bother me.

The sales posts are the worst.

I think these bother me as these are the same people whose last post is that they can’t sleep at night as they are so scared of what is going on. Maybe because they get sick very easily or have already had Covid and in the hospital.
It all makes no sense to me to throw it all away for a fun selfie

Keep posting your food, your squats, your cats, dogs, babies etc

Who gives a crap what people post? So if someone stays home and posts food or their gym activity because they are bored, they are annoying. But if they go outside and interact they are going to hell. Like which is it? People can’t do sh!t nowadays without a total judgement and this was way before the pandemic.

I guess I’m just tired of all the judgements and holier than thou attitude.

I’m complying and been staying home. But why let what others do get you upset? It’s not worth you feeling that emotion, especially in a time like this. There will always be people who break the rules or skate outside the lines, you can’t control that. For the most part people are staying in, the streets are dead, kids and people aren’t at school/work. The numbers are dropping so it is working. Why let the small percentage of dummies anger you?

I more upset at the government and the way they are handling things now. The disregard for All human lives and the fact that we are going on two weeks of not saying anything of Value. To me that’s where anger should be directed at, not the few dummies who aren’t going to listen regardless. It’s just not worth your energy.

This!!!

Yesterday we broke out and went over to the beach. I can say that everyone was social distancing and it was a great day.

The weather has been awful! Today I was moping around about it and my DH said that we have to look at the rain as Mother Nature's way of making us stay home again until this passes. I guess that is a good way to look at it but if it could be alternating days of crap and sun, that would be nice too.

I know it shouldn’t annoy me but you are being selfish and not thinking of anybody else as no one really knows if you have it or not.

yeah that's exactly how i feel. I got in a huge fight with a friend the other day. She told me her parents were coming over to pick up her kids because she needed a break. I said they're not supposed to be around her and her children and she said they haven't left their house and needed to spend time with them... Her dh works at the hospital!! I tried to explain that they could infect her parents and she didn't seem to get it. Said they are still following by the rules. I said if one parent gets it and doesn't know and then goes to the supermarket, they just infected more people. All because they couldn't just stay away from your kids.

People like them are exactly why we won't be able to do anything for a looooong time.

I see people hanging out with their friends on my block all the time.... I find it pretty irritating to be honest. Also people who post "party" pictures on social media which are current and have attendees who are not supposed to be in that house.

The best is they say well we were 6 ft apart but just that close to take a picture. Why are pictures needed? If you want to hang out then do so as you claim you do but it is all for attention.

Re: Social Distancing—Hanging out with Friends

I have a friend who had surgery right before the shit hit the fan. She can't drive. However, that hasn't stopped her mother (who is an essential worker) from picking her up and taking her to a salon to get her hair done. (she called the salon owner who usually comes to her house, and went in the back door - but told me it was OK, because it was just the two of them). Chat Icon

I stopped talking to her because she continually says this is being blown out of proportion, and we need to just all go back to normal. The real kicker here is she had a family member die from Covid-19, and her response was that she had been in a nursing home for 5 years and didn't really have a life. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Wow just wow. The ones I saw the other day “social distancing” hanging out were sick with it and one of them enough to be in the hospital. All for a selfie to keep popular? You are 50 years old. Your health is worth more than that. At least wait a bit.

My neighbors had a big bbq with neighborhood families, elderly, children, and pregnant women this weekend in their yard. I showed the gathering to my DD and explained to her that while we will be polite and friendly to these neighbors, we can never trust their judgment or look up to them as people. Just as the last presidential election permanently has changed my outlook and the company I keep, this pandemic has as well. I don’t care if that makes me judgemental or harsh. I will wear that label with a badge of pride.

I give you a lot of credit for saying what I've been feeling, but haven't put into words. Thank you

Social Distancing—Hanging out with Friends

I currently have covid and pneumonia. I almost lost my shit when one of my friends posted a pic of her and her sister at the park but were “6 feet” apart. Yet they are meeting every other day and even met up with her 75 year old parents at the park. Pictures galore. Duck you know how sick I’ve been but go ahead be dumb. ???????

Oh no so sorry, hope you feel better soon.

People make no sense and why they can’t just do as they are told. Why can’t they just FaceTime or text or call?

Thank you. I’m on day 10 so definitely on the upswing but last week was terrible and I almost was hospitalized because of not being able to breathe well. I don’t even have any pre-existing conditions. So to see my friend be such an idiot just makes me question the friendship and her intelligence.

I enjoy going out with friends and such but I am ok not seeing anyone but my family (many parts of the day I don’t even want to see them lol) right now. I miss my free time at work but know eventually we will be back to doing all these things again.

Social Distancing—Hanging out with Friends

I just got annoyed with my sister after seeing pictures she posted on social media. It was her birthday yesterday and when I called to wish her a happy birthday, she said should call back because her friend was over. Okay.... And then I see she posted pictures on Facebook of her and boyfriend, with his kid (okay she's been seeing the boyfriend), the little party her boyfriends's family threw for her, and her friend that stopped by her house to bring her pizza. Except this friend is a respiratory therapist at Lenox Hill! Okay so this friend was wearing a mask, the only one wearing a mask btw, but still not okay. Like she doesn't need to be flaunting her lack of social distancing on Facebook. I guess I should stay off and scroll past....

It’s like they do it on purpose and don’t realize that they are being looked down on and not impressing anyone.

My husband has a friend who is a healthcare worker and has been working with COVID positive patients. He has invited us over several times for a BBQ or to have his kids and my kids go for a bike ride together.
I just don't get it. People are just doing whatever they want. I haven't seen my mother in over a month. She is in her late 70s and lives alone but we are not seeing each other for her safety.
