Re: How do you make Mommy friends?

I have a few close mommy friends that I met at my job, my 2 very close neighbors, and then wives/mommy's I met thru DH's friends.

I have met a few here from LIF who are awesome. I go to MY GYM with DS on saturdays and dont find the moms too friendly there. I had also gone to a free gymboree class once and also didnt find them friendly there either..Chat Icon

They will talk for a few min, then move on, and then the next week either dont say anything or just be like, "oh hi"....

After DS's session is over in a few more weeks, I will not be re-enrolling him in any of those type of places. I'll just stick to playdates. Chat Icon

Re: How do you make Mommy friends?

I've made some mom friends in my area by signing up with a local meetup group on www.meetup.com. Its not just for SAHM's we have WAHM, F/T working moms, anyone is welcome. There are tons of playdates both at members homes and public places. We do moms nights out, moms night in, you name it it goes on the calendar! If you don't find something in your area that strikes your interest, start your own group Chat Icon

I've also met moms at my local church playgroup. This year I am actually assistant volunteer heading it up. We use the church basement and put out toys, coloring books, play dough. Put on a pot of coffee, light snacks and juice for the kids. We do it every Friday from 11-1pm and its $2 per family to cover the cost of snacks, paper goods, coffee, tea, milk, etc. Any extra at the end of the year we donate to the church for letting us use the space.
This was established many years ago so we already had the donated toys, coffee maker and stuff but if you wanted to start your own it would be fairly easy with a little help from other interested moms.

oh and our Michaels has "mommy and I" arts and crafts so I've met people there too.
any questions just FM me Chat Icon

Re: How do you make Mommy friends?

I know this is somewhat old .... but I organize a playgroup on meetup. I can tell you that as a "lonely" mom, you need to force yourself out of your comfort zone and get out there... say hi to other moms, smile at people, make eye contact. I have had great success meeting other women on meetup... if you need assistance finding a good meetup group, please email me I would love to help you.

The Group I run is in suffolk county ny.

But there are so many to chose from.

As for joining an established group... well you will have to make a little effort to get to know the other members and hopefully they will do the same. It really gets easier as you do it... good luck!

I chicken out too. I don't know why. I always think that they won't like me or that I will be too boring for them.

I feel the same way. All of us who feel like this should get together and form the "Shy moms playgroup"! Chat Icon

I am having a hard time too. I am a SAHM, and i just dont seem to be able to make any mommy friends. I found 1 really nice person in the 1 1/2 of having my boys.. I met her through the gym we go to.... (you know who you are) she intro'd me to this site and hoping to make more mommy friends.Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon
Well, I met one mommy from the gym class and she started talking to me and we really hit it off. As she said above, she is a SAHM and I am a FT working mom, so it's difficult to gtg, but we try as much as we can.

I also met Little-J-Mommy on here and she and I really hit it off and are so similar in our parenting and temperment. We communicate via FM and have gotten together, but she works FT also, so it's even more difficult for us to get together.

There is another mommy on here who goes to our gym class and she is super nice! But same thing, it's so difficult to gtg.

And, another lady I met from here...she is just the sweetest, and her DD is super cute and such a good girl, but she's a SAHM and like I've said before...it's really difficult to find a time to gtg.

So, that's my whole list of mommy friends. I met most on here (or because of this site). It's so difficult to find someone you click with personally AND have similar parenting styles to. And I feel like you can't go to too many groups because your whole weekend will be gone.

Re: How do you make Mommy friends?

I am having a hard time too. Sammy is in school but is a private kindergarten and well I havent really met the moms yet - hopefully when he is in 1st grade. I work full time so it makes it even harder for me. I would love to set up a GTG on a weekend in Nassau county to meet people.

Re: How do you make Mommy friends?

I've always had a hard time making new friends because I'm so afraid of the rejection factor. It's so high school. I really am a good friend! None of my good friends live in Jersey where we live so DH and his sisters and mom are my only "friends". I've been looking into playgroups in the area with no luck. Most are catered towards SAHM's because they are on weekdays. I even get hesitant to go to LIF GTG's because I always think that most of the ladies already know each other. Oh well...hopefully when he goes to school we'll meet someone. But he's only four months old so we have a long way to go

Re: How do you make Mommy friends?

I am in the same situation as many of you. DD is 8 months old and I am a FT working mom, so the only time I have is on the weekends. We just started a Gynboree class 2 weeks ago. I have talked to a few moms, but don't know how to take it further. I would love to meet other moms that would be availabe for GTG on saturdays or evenings. We live in Farmingdale now, but plan to move to Commack/East Northport within the year.
