Question for speech therapists

I am a SPED teacher. I have a child that speaks at an unusually high tone. He does not receive speech at all and his pragmatics are fine. But I am telling you that he sounds like Mickey Mouse! Is there anything that can be done for this or will he grow out of it?

hi! i'm trying to remember my voice disorders class.. lol... but from what i remember, high pitched voice is caused by vocal cords being too tense and tight. there are some exercises that could maybe be done to help him relax his vocal cords and lower his pitch.
a lot of times voice therapy isn't done in schools though- because its not considered an academic concern (more medical). they would probably start with him going to an ENT to check and see whats physically going on with his vocal cords. definitely ask the therapist at your school though.

I know for me, we aren't allowed to treat a student for voice therapy unless they have a note from their doctor with medical necessity and some sort of diagnosis.

Is voice the only concern? Does the student have Autism?

I agree about possibly sending him for a consult with an ENT to rule out a medical cause. However, in my experience, these children usually had a more emotional issue underlying the voice issue, such as anxiety.

I would recommend possibly seeing an ENT first to rule out any possible physical abnormailities.
