Help me Please- I'm panicking
I had a D&C on 4/14 for a second miscarriage. I still have not gotten my period. It has been 5 1/2 weeks. I know that this is normal.....it can take 4-12 weeks. THis was my second m/c. I had one in September and after that I got my period back 28 days later.
I had my blood checked just 2 weeks after this D&C (3 weeks ago) and my HCG was down to 28. Dr. insisted I have protected sex until I get a cycle for several reasons. He insisted that I must use protection b/c I need a cycle, and he also wanted me to have a colposcopy for HPV before attempting to get pg. again.
DH and I have NOT been using protection. I admit it. I have been obsessing about getting my pd., and today took a HPT; one that I had in the medicine chest. A faint line appeared. I ran to the pharmacy and got a digital that says "pregnant"
I'm terrified that I am pregnant again....it can't possibly work since I just m/c and I would need progesterone to make it work since I have low progesterone. Or, do you think that it could still be leftover hormone from the pregnancy?
And I know this sounds rediculous but I'm afraid to call the doctor b/c I had unprotected sex and he firmly told me NOT to. I just called him anyway and got the answering service. I'm so nervous.

Try not to panic!!
If you had your bloodwork done 3 wks ago and it was 28 then you were probably JUST pregnant then - if not, you def. are now. Congrats!!
I know you're scared but try to remain calm and call your MD ASAP if you need progesterone. Don't worry about disappointing your MD - that's not his place to make you feel like that!

Re: Help me Please- I'm panicking
i would call your OB for bloodwork. i'm not a doctor but i am pretty sure your hcg levels need to be at or close to 0 to ovulate. you would have had to go from 28 to 0 in about one week for you to be getting a positive test result now.
what's done is done, i am sure all your OB is worried about now is making sure you are healthy

Re: Help me Please- I'm panicking
Most digital HPTs pick up an HCG level of 50 or more, which is why I believe you've had an increase since your last beta

What you don't understand is that when I had it checked and it was 28, it was down to 28 from 2800 the week before.....so it makes sense that now, 3 weeks after it should be totally negative....0. However, its clearly NOT.....I called OB and he told me to come in Tuesday for bloodwork. In the meantime, I'm taking the leftover progesterone pills from last time.
He says it could be a new pregnancy or a false positive. We can only know when he starts taking the beta.
I don't know what to think. I'm scared.

your hcg levels would have had to stay at 28 for 3 weeks for this to be happening. my educated guess is that they went to 0 within that next week and soon after you ovulated. but i could obviously be wrong.
i would say if you used a line test, you could have gotten a false positive, but because you used the digital, which needs MORE hcg than a line test to get a positive, that you are actually pregnant. there is really no such thing as a false positive with a digital test.
try not to panic.

Re: Help me Please- I'm panicking
There is no reason to panic - this has happened to a lot of women, myself included. I miscarried, was told to wait 2-3 months, but unbeknownst to me, I was already pregnant again at that point when I was told to wait!
I FREAKED out, and was so scared what my ob/gyn would say or do, but he reassured me there is absolutely NO statistical evidence that conceiving so quickly on the heels of a miscarriage increases your chances for another in any way. In fact, he said that there is some evidence to show that women are particularly fertile right after a miscarriage, which explains why so many women end up conceiving so quickly after one.
I had a stressful first trimester, but the pregnant was strong and perfect, and I have a fiery, spirited, healthy, smartarse little 3.5 year old to show for it now.
You'll be ok - hang in there!
