Of all the boards on LIF- this is the ONLY one that seems to need it's own exclusivity of members in order for it to *work*.
I disagree, there are a few boards on here that have some exclusivity and that is why they work and if people started crashing they would either fall apart or become a joke.

I agree. I wouldn't post on or comment on IF (unless it was congratulating or giving hugs to someone) because I don't know what it's like to have fertility issues. The same for parenting, pregnancy or any other board I don't have first hand experience with.

Re: work issues for those without children
Aren't there posters on THIS particular board - aka Childfree - that are PLANNING on having children?
So, when they do have children - they are not welcome?

I think not welcome is to strong a statement. I have no problem with parents posting on this forum. If they are offering support that's wonderful and appreciated. It's when we feel like we are being attacked or told we are wrong, selfish, don't understand, ect that is becomes frustrating and upsetting.

that is not true for everyone...I was specifically told (in this thread) that whether we agree or disagree, we should not be lurking OR posting, period

on THIS post, kara specifically asked for opinions on her topic from the childfree ONLY... for any parent who did add their "2 cents" -- total party foul...

If you're referring to my posts, I said multiple times that I don't understand why parents would be lurking here to begin with because I don't click on forums that don't apply to me. You're obviously free to post wherever you want. If this was just an issue of parents chiming in occasionally on certain threads, it wouldn't be such a big deal. I don't think anyone cares who is posting on threads about movies or even weekend plans. However, there's hardly a thread on here other than "getting to know ---" that parents don't post on. I just don't feel that it should be too much to ask for parents to avoid posting on a thread on the CF board that specifically asks for responses from Childless posters. Sometimes we're really NOT looking for input from a broader audience and I can't understand why that's such a big deal. No, I can't control who posts on what threads, but I thought I could expect a little more respect for a request like that on the CF board.
It's been suggested that the CF folks may have to go elsewhere to find somewhere like a "safe haven" to post / vent / discuss issues amongst ourselves only. . . Honestly, after this thread, I probably will.

I didn't even know if I was using it in the right terms so I asked my friends and got some conflicting information... So I edited to err on the side of caution.
Thanks for the confirmation though.

TBH, I did not even notice / realize that until AFTER I initially posted...my mistake ...
but there were other posters who said in general that parents should not be lurking or posting on this board at all, not just specifically related to THIS thread.....
Kara, I apologize for replying to this post at all.....I did not mean any harm......

I know that when I have children as I hope to do!) I most likely won't be posting here as much or even reading it - partially because I'd be spending time reading the parenting board (which I don't currently so) or because I won't have as much in common with the board's posters. Just a fact of life.
I still don't get why someone would put in their opinion when it's not asked for.

Re: work issues for those without children
Kind of a side story but when I first started working at my job I would stay until my boss left. Than my co-worker came back from maternity leave and would leave at 5:30 because she had to releave her nanny. I waited until it wasn't busy and started leaving at the same time. I figured, if she can leave, why can't I? Of course I still work late during busy times, but take full advantage of a 5:30 departure during the slow times. I almost always leave before my boss and when I don't she ask what I'm doing here. As long as the work gets done, I don't feel bad about it.
Kid or no kids, everyone should be treated the same- my boss did not give special preference (she is childless). My co-worker wound up leaving and becoming a stay at home mom because my boss was not flexible.

Acutally that's not fair at all..... many of us here will spend ALL, not SOME, of our time childless and not by choice

Re: work issues for those without children
I think the point that some posters have missed is this: It's not keeping count of who got what extra time off, it's resentment over being treated like a DOORMAT if you don't have children.
No one likes to constantly get the short end of the stick - be the low man on the totem pole that always gets stuck with the worst shift, overtime, working holidays etc. If it's a matter of seniority you just have to accept it, but when it's rubbed in your face that "you don't have children so you should be OK with this crappy treatment"... well, that's when it gets old really fast.
