Re: Swine Flue Vaccine and YOU

I'm on the sign-up sheet at work, so as soon as our company gets it in, I'll be getting one. I already got the regular flu shot.

Since I'm diabetic, I'm "high risk", so I jump towards the front of the line, so I'll definitely be getting one when they come.

Not planning on it, since I'm not in a high risk group. I'd rather they get it first, and then if there is enough I'll try to get one.

Re: Swine Flue Vaccine and YOU

I would like to, but there are none.. and by the time the shot probably is available, I won't be pregnant anymore.

I wanted DD to get it- but there is none for her either.....

When I have my c/s I won't even let DD in the hospital for fear of all the germs- it all just stinks.

Re: Swine Flue Vaccine and YOU

The school I work in was closed for the Swine Flu last yr.

With that said I don't know.

I have had the regular flu vaccine and gotten sick anyway, and NOT had it and not gotten sick.

Re: Swine Flue Vaccine and YOU

No.

My Dr. isn't giving it and I trust her judgement/intinct so I'm not going to get it.

My SIL who is a pharmacit also isn't going to get it - she believes it is not neccessary if you take proper percautions (washing your hands, keeping hands away from face....).

I am 18 weeks pregnant and I am leaning towards getting in on Monday, since they are available through my job. I am a bit nervous about it, so I am going to think about it over the weekend.

Yes, when I am allowed to. I'm not worried at all. Every year millions of flu vaccines are manufactured with low risk to those who get them. This is the same thing as that vaccine but a different form of the virus. Itching to get it....Bring it on! Chat Icon

Re: Swine Flue Vaccine and YOU

i do not even take the reg. flu shot - if i do not have to I will not do it.

Saying that if I had underlying conditions, etc then I might reconsider. If we had children I would avoid it but i would consider it. If i was preggers I wouldn't do it regardless. Just what I would do.

Re: Swine Flue Vaccine and YOU

nope not feeding in to the media hipe of it. sorry but i have had a few people i know have this"flu" and oh no they are all ok. really it is just a media filled flu and i do not believe for one minute that there are more people with the swine flu then the flu. i mean come on think about it, this time last year what was out there the flu, i ended up with it and my daughter was in hospital with it. she is a mild asthmatic and so am i. i will not be getting it and no one in my family will be getting either. we have gone all these years with out anything i plan on not putting any more junk into mine or my daughters body. i take the precautions and am not worried, and let me tell you i am the FIRST one to freak out. we will survive this just like we survived all the other bull out there. sorry just my honest opinion . i do not by it for one second.

Re: Swine Flue Vaccine and YOU

DH and I both got it through our son's pediatrician. I'm returning back to work as a teacher in 4 weeks and DH travels for business.

I didn't want to get the shot, but our pediatrician strongly recommended that we get it, so we did. Chat Icon

Re: Swine Flue Vaccine and YOU

I got the seasonal flu shot in the beginning of Oct, and the swine flu shot 2 weeks ago.

I had a mild reaction (sore arm and feeling tired) from the seasonal flu shot, and no effect whatsoever from the swine flu shot. This was the first year I had recieved any flu shot in my life.

I'm glad I got both shots because I have cared for patients who were pretty sick with flu symptoms and I am not sick. Caring for these patients for 12 hours in close contact, I would have definitly been sick.

I chose to get both for myself because when I do get any type of bad viral illness, I always wnd up with a bad bronchitis or pneumonia.

With swine flu, you cannot return to work for 7 days after the last fever or the last cough even if you feel perfectly fine. I don't know about anyone else, but I do not have 2 weeks of sick time to take and if you go back early you are only risking other people's health because you are still contagous to others.
