Vitamin D Deficiency

Has anyone been diagnosed with a severe vitamin D deficiency. I found out to day (after having some blood work) that my Vitamin D levels are 17 where normal range is 32-100

My doctor called me in a prescription medication to take once a week

any experience with this?

thanks

Re: Vitamin D Deficiency

Doctor said mine was low. He gave me a script for vitamin D but then in the next breath said over the counter is as good as the script, so I just take an over the counter vitamin D every morning along with my multivitamin.

I haven't seen any positive or negative changes since I started taking it (a year ago maybe?)

Re: Vitamin D Deficiency

I was told I was vitamin D deficient too. I take an otc supplement everyday. I think Dr. Oz also said you should get about 15 minutes of unblocked sun everyday -- because that is where you will get the most vitamin D.

I take an over the counter one too, I think it's 1000 mg. There really hasn't been a change in mine either, and I am outside for at least 20 minutes everyday. The last time I got it checked my levels were 30.

Re: Vitamin D Deficiency

I take 1000IU of Vit D. It does help. I don't get out much but now that it's really nice I will be out more.

Re: Vitamin D Deficiency

I have the same problem, my level was less than 4 Chat Icon (I avoid milk due to lactose intolerance, I think this is the root of the problem)

The doc gave me samples of an RX supplement, but said that as long as I was taking calcium with vit D OTC it should be OK.
