Letting an indoor cat go outside
so in my new apartment- my little Maggie will be able to go outside
what do I need to do to prepare her for this?
shots, collar, flea and tick?
she is going to be so excited
my landlord has 2 boy cats her age that she can play with!
Also- Pokey my persian will not be going outside- is there anything I need to do to prepare him for maggie coming in and out (she will be sleeping inside- or I wont sleep)

chip if possible
frontline every 3 months
is the yard fenced?
have the other cats been vaccinated?
also I assume they are all fixed?

Besides vaccinating, tags, and microchipping, your cat should be fine! It's all instincts. Just be careful not to let the other guy out!

I need to get her to the vet and get her a cute little collar!
She is going to love it

Beth not sure if she will like the collar.
Mine always wriggled out of the collars.
As long as it's fenced it will be a deterrent but if it's a low fence they could jump over.

Just speaking from my own personal experience..
My cat had one of those breakaway collars on . He disappeared for 3 days.
When he finally came home his collar was gone and his neck was all raw.
Apparently he had goten himself stuck..
I myself would never put a collar on my cat again .

i was going to say this...
if you're letting her outside i would not put a collar on her! there are too many things for it to get stuck on and she could end up strangling herself.
the only risk i can think of for an indoor and outdoor cat living together is the risk of fiv...

yeah, I let my cats outside supervised and they don't have collars.
When they are outside we are outside with them.
They stay close..they know where home is.
I haven't chipped them but my neighbors chipped theirs.

We used to never put collars on our cats either. Until one day after Daisy was missing for 2 or 3 days came back with a collar on. From someone else.  At least she liked us better- she came back.

if you have one in and one out BOTH need to have the shots and flee and tick meds. Also my one outdoor cat has a break away collar. It is one that even if i play with him comes off. There are really good ones out there that break away very easy. Good luck!

she's a big shot with the glass door in front of her- but the landlords cat keeps coming to visit her- thru the glass
it's very cute
I just realized that we have never lived on the ground floor- so this is a whole new world for them

awww lol! mine is like that too. she paws at the storm door, trying to open it. if you open it to let her go, she runs inside like a cat out of hell!
