need advice regarding my feral cat
I want to treat her for fleas. Do you need a prescription for cat flea meds?
what ones do you use on your cats? and how do you suggest I apply it? Is there something I can put in the food that you suggest?
I cant have this cat get fleas and live in my yard kwim? Any suggestions? I had a fight with my vet the other day . He wont give me any meds with heart worm in them without an exam.

I have seen Frontline available in stores without a rx, but I think he wants the heart worm test becuase the medication might hurt the cat if she has heart worms, not sure though.
You will still have to get very close to her to apply it.

Ok then I will just buy it at the pet store.. I am not going to give heart worm meds to her.. She is 12-13 years old and has lived feral all of these years .. My guess is she doesnt have heart worm.. But I am sure she gets fleas everyyear living out doors .. I will treat her for that for sure.. I just have no idea how I will get it on her back without freaking her out.. I have to be really careful I suppose .. and I hope she doesnt freak ME out!! I am still a little afraid of her .. I just dont trust her .. But I do LOVE her !! Do they make any that goes in the food?

The frontline is going to be really hard to apply. You have to get it in the right spot - between the shoulder blades. I don't know what else to suggest though. That's what we use on our pets.

What about treating your dog more so? Odds are you won't be able to get that close to her...Frontline is a lot of liquid and if you don't get it on correctly, she can ingest it and it can make her sick, kwim?
I don't think it's going to work b/c you will have to use it every month for it to work and if she won't let you close enough for that long to apply it correctly, then forget it.
Trying to think if there is anything else you can use. Your dog should def be on a monthly treatment for sure b/c you do NOT want to get fleas, even ONE, in your house. Trust me.

I agree. My dogs will barely sit still. Dh and I have to do it together. You would think we were hurting them. So I don't imagine a feral will sit tight for that month after month. It's a lot of liquid.

I definitely treat Lola even in the cold months.. She is so good about it,, she lets me do ANYTHING to her I mean ANYTHING.. As long as I am touching her she is happy.LOL
The cat wont leave me alone now either.. she would rather I pet her for 10 min than even eat her food.. She is all over me .. Thats why I HAVE to treat her. A flea may jump on me and then it will be all over for me .. MY dh will kick us all out of here for good!!

OH I didnt realize she was letting you pet her that long.
As for a flea jumping on you...not as likely as a flea jumping on Lola. Fleas prefer to be on dogs or cats, so it's def a great thing that you are treating Lola year round.
Not saying dont do it but just be careful, I would not want kitty to ingest it and get sick.

The pet store has them. Just ask the clerk for them. THey are expensive but they work
