Need advice from cat owners!
My SIL got a 16wk old Ragdoll kitten from a breeder at the beginning of January. This cat is completely RULING her house and RUNNING her life!!!
Here's a list of his offenses (may be too many to post): -Jumps all over the counters - she moved barstools away from bar so cat couldn't climb up so now he's climbing up table & jumping from there. -While on counter he laid in empty fruit bowl and then shiit in it when he was done -Every time SIL comes home he goes to the bathroom in inappropriate places (ie: anywhere but the litterbox) -Does same as above anytime she's not paying him the attention he wants -Shiits in her bed RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER when she's not paying attention to him -Meows at the door like crazy when she comes downstairs to talk to me or DH (we own a 2 family house with her) -Is not like this with her husband, only her -She's tried the water bottle for counters, doesn't seem to work.
Any advice I can give her? I've never seen such a bad cat!!! Thanks!!
P.S. He's already been neutered.

Re: Need advice from cat owners!
my cats both jump on counters and it's all I can do to keep them off.
The defecating outside the box may be a medical problem. Has she taken the cat to the vet?
The litter may not be right for the cat and/or the food.
Does she clean the box often? Also I find having more than one litter box solved that problem for me with my other cats.
It does sound a bit behavioral, maybe some jealousy but maybe she should try to play with the cat more or give treats from her hand when he does something right or cute.

i have never heard of cat that was this bad. Does he ever go in the litter box? maybe there's somthing mentally wrong with him? I would have her talk to her vet about it. I mean some of it might be spite.

The only time the cat DOESN'T go in the litter box is when she's home, usually within minutes of her walking in the door (and almost always he does it right in front of her). She and her husband were out of town for a weekend so we fed him, cleaned the litter box, etc and he had no accidents.
When she brought him home from breeder he was already potty trained. She has brought him to the vet & he was put on different food, but that hasn't solved the problem.
As far as I can tell it's behavioral. She does feed him treats by hand (limited b/c of diet) and she gives him a lot of attention/plays with him. It just seems like odd sort of behavior, like he's a jealous spoiled child.

Re: Need advice from cat owners!
I got my cat at 2 months old (now 2) and she used the litter box in the beginning but than stopped. THe only time she would use it was when I cleaned it or locked her in the room with it. One day I decided to take the cover off ( had covered box) and she never went anywhere besides the box after that.

Was the cat declawed? My declawed rescue doesnt like to use the box. Also how many times a day does she clean the box? What is her reaction when he goes in front of her? Sounds like bizarre behavior to me, but also sounds like attention seeking behavior. If she freaks out when he does it, he might like it.. She may have to pretend to ignore it. And clean it when hes not looking.

Re: Need advice from cat owners!
I know cats are different than dogs, but I just read a puppy training book that says some animals just crave attention, and don't really care whether it's positive or negative. If the cat only does it when she comes home, it may just be it's way of getting attention. Maybe she can try to praise it and give it lots of positive attention as soon as she comes home or whenever the cat is behaving nicely so that it slowly starts to learn ways to earn "happy" attention rather than "angry" attention,

No, he wasn't declawed. She cleans the box 2-3 times a day, but even when the box is clean he will go right in front of her.
That's a good suggestion, for her to ignore it and clean it up when he's not looking. I'll pass that along to her. Thanks!
