I am think about getting my husband a new camera for our Anniversary..

Can you recommend your camera? I am torn between a point and shoot or an SLR

Thoughts? Opinions?

Re: Camera Recommendations

I really LOVE my PowerShot Cannon SD940 IS. I get compliments on the quality of my photos when I print them. I don't really use the auto setting. I have the CD that came with that has taught me a lot about the settings (since I never really learned about all of that before). Easy camera to use.

Re: Camera Recommendations

I have the Nikon D40 (SLR)...

I would never go back to a point & shoot... after having a SLR... BUT, if you dont have to spend a couple of hundred then a point and shoot does the job too...

Re: Camera Recommendations

If you have (or plan to have) children I'd suggest the DSLR - there is virtually no lag time on the shutter like you get with a point and shoot. You'll get those instant moments and motion shots instead of the split second after.

I'm a Canon fan and the Rebel series is an excellent entry-level DSLR. It has several auto settings that give you the same ease of a point and shoot and you can grow into the various user-controlled settings as you learn more about the camera.

Drawbacks of a DSLR are the size - it's not something you'll stick in your pocket so you may be less inclined to carry it with you all the time. If you want something he'll always have with him a point and shoot is a better option.
