Question for all you nutrition experts (Re: peanut butter)
On Weight Watchers, Regular PB is 3 points for a tablespoon whereas Better'n Peanut Butter is only 1 point for a tablespoon.
I was comparing the nutritional info. Regular peanut butter has less carbs (about half the amount), same amount of protein, and same amount of fiber. The biggest difference (other than the carbs) is the amount of fat. However, I've heard that peanut butter is a "good fat"? So despite being more calories and having more fat am I better off having a tablespoon of regular PB on my whole wheat bread (just one slice)? It's one of my favorite preworkout snacks because it agrees with my tummy!
Thank you!!

Re: Question for all you nutrition experts (Re: peanut butter)
It is a good fat however you want to buy the natural kind because there are no hydrogenated oils in it (trans fat). Regular peanut butter is made using hydrogenation. If you don’t like the natural kind that you have to stir, Skippy’s natural has no hydrogenated oils and you don't have to stir I never recommend the reduced fat peanut butter to anyone.

Re: Question for all you nutrition experts (Re: peanut butter)
Natural Peanut Butter ingredients: Peanuts, sea salt
Better n peanut butter ingredients: PEANUTS (AS DEFATTED PEANUT FLOUR AND NATURAL PEANUT BUTTER), TAPIOCA SYRUP, PURE WATER, DEHYDRATED CANE JUICE, RICE SYRUP, VEGETABLE GLYCERIN, SOY FLOUR, SALT, TAPIOCA STARCH, NATURAL FOOD FLAVORS, PAPRIKA & ANNATO, CALCIUM CARBONATE, LECITHIN, VITAMINS E & C (ANTIOXIDANTS).
You can't go without fat - monounsaturated fat is good for your heart. Eat regular natural PB (no sugar added, nothing hydrogenated).

Wow! I didn't realize the difference in ingredients. I still have 2 jars of Better'n Peanut Butter. I think my mom is going to get a gift lol

I hate better n' peanut butter - it's so loaded with sugar and syrups, that I'm suprised it even has a gram of protein! I would stick with the real stuff... my rule of thumb is that the more natural state the product is in, the better it is for your body.

Colleen - I think we've been through this before.
If you're still looking for a lowfat option - go for something like PB2 - it's only 1 PointsPlus for 2 Tablespoons!

I love Better'n Peanut Butter. Then again, I have a strange ability to get my taste buds to believe that the "low fat/fat free/healthy" verisons of food actually taste better...so you might not be able to go by me!
See...I'm like that too, which is why I really don't like Better n' PB...
here is BnPB ingredients.. (taken from site - I didn't go crazy with caps - ) Ingredients: PEANUTS (AS DEFATTED PEANUT FLOUR AND NATURAL PEANUT BUTTER), TAPIOCA SYRUP, PURE WATER, DEHYDRATED CANE JUICE, RICE SYRUP, VEGETABLE GLYCERIN, SOY FLOUR, SALT, TAPIOCA STARCH, NATURAL FOOD FLAVORS, PAPRIKA & ANNATO, CALCIUM CARBONATE, LECITHIN, VITAMINS E & C (ANTIOXIDANTS).
All I taste are the syrups. Too much "stuff" not enough Peanuts.
Here's PB2's ingredients... Ingredients: Roasted peanuts, sugar and salt.

Re: Question for all you nutrition experts (Re: peanut butter)
I use Smuckers natural style reduced fat:
Ingredients: Peanuts, maltodextrin, reduced fat ground peanuts, salt.
Fat: 12g Sat Fat: 2g Trans Fat: 0g Polyunsat Fat: 3.5g Monounsat Fat: 6g
The other ones scare me but if you're saying the Trans Fat is the big no-no, then I guess I'm doing alright.
The stirring annoyed me at first but now I just stir it for 2 minutes when I first open it, and that's it. Call it bicep exercises.

I eat this one as well. Its not as smooth as JIF but I like the texture. Bj's sells 2pk.

Re: Question for all you nutrition experts (Re: peanut butter)
I agree, the texture was a lot different from the Skippy's that I switched from but it actually makes me feel like I'm eating something more substantial. I eat it on crackers while having tea and it's a nice combo.

None of the above. Almond butter is better for you! All that other crap has chemicals in it.

This is what I was gonna say, I can't even eat pb after using ab for awhile, it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. TJ's has a good ab.

Re: Question for all you nutrition experts (Re: peanut butter)
almonds have slightly less sat fat than peanuts. It's all about preference for taste. As stated above there are no chemicals in natural peanut butter.

Re: Question for all you nutrition experts (Re: peanut butter)
I read something recently that disturbed me regarding peanuts.....
Farmers plant peanuts to clean out the toxins from the soil. Peanuts absorb all that crap really easily.
And we are eating peanut products because.......?
