weird breathing question
Hi all. So here's the dish. I am pretty overweight but I have been noticing something lately. I can do pretty intense sessions on the elliptical at the gym sweating and huffing a bit but I think that's normal. But dang! I go to the mall or walk around the block and I find my breathing feels labored or that it seems to take more effort than it should! Its like I need a scooter lol. I don't get it since I can work out heavily with no wheezing. Any thoughts? And yeah I will ask my doc but since I already go there like crazy bc I am a hypochondriac. I thought I could start here! Thank u!!!

Re: weird breathing question
your breathing heavy working out AND when your walking the Mall?
IMO the elliptical is an easy gliding and not a lot of resistance.. walking is ALL you, your doing ALL the work. that could be it.
Keep up the work outs and you will see they get easier but if your concerned I wld consult with your dr.

Re: weird breathing question
Sorry I meant I do the elltical with lots of resistance and intervals of incline so I expect to sweat and breathe a little more intensely! Lol. But not when leisurely walking with no inclines etc. I should have explained itr better lol

its ok I kind got what you meant. Did you just start working out? It seems like you have to slowly build your endurance up to wear your not breathing so heavy. Have you told your Dr that you have hard time breathing when you walk?

This is why I think the treadmill is better, even if you are walking on an incline and not running. It better mimics real life and IMO the workout is better.

Re: weird breathing question
thanks ladies.
hmm well i have worked out for years now...but i only do 2-3 times a week since doing the infertility treatments...and sometimes depending on where in my cycle i dont do anything.
i actually stopped doing the treadmill bc my foot doc said its worse for me feet (plantar facitis) so i havent done it in a long time. maybe i can restart the walking slowly.
no i never really mentioned the breathing to my doctor bc i figured if i can work out really hard at the gym and be fine...that its not worth mentioning the light walking making me breathe like a dragon kwim?

Re: weird breathing question
Do you have allergies?
Maybe you have mild allergic asthma and it's triggered outside, in mall air conditioning, etc.
I have mild asthma and I usually need 2 factors to have an attack. A bad allergy day, smoke, bad exhast fumes when I exercise, or any of the above and being really upset, etc etc.
I have a phenomenal allergy/asthma doc in Watagh (I travel from Queens to Wantagh to see him)..

Re: weird breathing question
I have heard about people getting breathless when walking leisurely. The more you stay on a fitness plan, the easier everything becomes!
