What incline do you run at on the treadmill?
When I run on the treadmill, I usually don't run on an incline. I've heard it's easier on your knees to run on an incline though. What should I set it at? Do you run on an incline the entire time? Do you switch it up during the run or on different days?

I always set it at 3 or above. I found that the incline keeps my lower back from hurting.

I set it at 0.5 for a flat run, or between 2 and 6 for a hillly run (usually doing intervals of hill and no hill).

Re: What incline do you run at on the treadmill?
rarely over .5
I rarely run on the TM, so I'm not worried about hills. I do specific hill workouts on the roads and in my regular runs.

I ran on the treadmill all winter last year. For "flat" I keep it at 1.5. I find that feels the most natural for me. For hill I do intervals and go all the way up to the max incline which is 10 on my treadmill.

no less than 1. Usually steadily on a 1 and then every couple of minutes i will increase and then bring it back down to a 1

0.5 or 1.0 most of the time If I'm practicing hills, I set the incline at 5.0 or 5.5.

Same here. If I want a hill workout, there is one 2 miles away from my house that I jog to and then run hill repeats.
I live in a decently hilly area so I get enough hills.

Me too. I live on the top of a decent hill...so I just have to walk out the door

The one thing I love about the hill I do workouts on is it is a dead end street so very few cars are on it when I am trying to huff and puff up it. I hate hills. Before I moved here, I thought a barely there hill by my parents was a hill.

Re: What incline do you run at on the treadmill?
I have to say After reading this, I changed my incline. Considering that I always run hilly terrain outdoors, I don't know why I would think it was ok to keep it at 0.0 on the treadmill. I don't even think about the hills as I run them outdoors but when I am inside at 0.0 it definately seems more monotonous and just plain boring that I can't wait for it to be over. This morning I kept it at at 0.5 minimum and went to 1.0 for an extended time. I couldn't believe how natural it felt. It felt as if I was running my usual route outdoors. So much more enjoyable. Never would have I done that on my own (I still don't know why I didn't think of it). Thanks ladies
