If your child goes to (or went to) Universal Pre-K
Does (or did) the teacher have a desk?
My DS goes to UPK in a school that has universal pre-K for the first time. There were apparently some delivery issues getting furniture/learning centers from NYC Board of Ed (DS's class had a rag-tag of odds and ends in terms of chairs, books, learning materials for the first few weeks of school).
I had not been in the classroom since September until the other day, when I brought in party supplies for the class Halloween party. The teacher asked me to put the stuff in the classroom. I asked her if I should put it on her desk and she said "Pfff, I don't have a desk..." She sounded annoyed (not at me, but that she didn't have a desk).
Another parent told me "It's UPK -- the teacher isn't supposed to have a desk..."
Is this true?

Yes, but it's UPK at an actual pre-school, not at a school in the district.

Re: If your child goes to (or went to) Universal Pre-K
I didn't teach at a UPK but was a pre-k teacher in a catholic school for 3 years before I got a job in NYC...
And I do have to say that I barely ever used my desk! It was more for before and after hours...a place to put my jacket/purse and to display a few family pictures then anything I used for teaching purposes.
Even when I stayed late to do prep work and lesson plans, I more often did it at the large tables then at the desk because there was more room there!

yes.. my DD went to universal preK and yes, the teacher had a desk, but no, I don't think that she really ever sat at it- they were usually at centers, etc.
Our district is Princeton Plan and her school is Prek/K only.

My son went last year and my daughter currently goes. The teacher and the assistant both have desks. The classroom is in their district elementary school.

Our district doesn't have UPK, but I saw that you wrote it's NYC BOE. My BIL is a special area teacher in the city and for the first few years had to teach in the hallway. No desk or anything either. Crazy, right?
