Does Child health plus accept pre existing illnesses?
DS is currently seeing a specialist for his high fevers ever month. I plan to apply for CHP eff January 1st. Will they not cover anything b/c its pre existing?

Are these fevers due to an underlying disorder or condition or fevers caused by cold viruses? If cold viruses I would think it should be covered.
I would contact Child Health Plus--I really don't know if they cover preexisting conditions or no. Though I'm guessing this is not a preexisting condition. Fevers generally come from a cold virus which you pick up anytime--they don't tend to linger so long. Generally things like diabetes, epilepsy, cancer, etc. fall into the preexisting condition category.

Re: Does Child health plus accept pre existing illnesses?
Im pretty sure this is how it goes.
As long as there is no lapse in coverage they will have to cover the condition effective the date of the new insurance.
If there is a lapse in coverage they dont cover the pre existing condition for the same period of time that there was a lapse. Example: if there was a lapse in coverage for 4 months then they dont cover the condition for the first 4 months of the new converage...The amount of time that they dont cover the preexisting condition cant exceed 1 year so if there was a lapse in coverage for 2 years it wont be 2 years before they cover the condition it would only be 12 months.
Dont quote me on this but it's my understanding of how things work.

We just started the process of finding out why he is getting these fevers. Its not caused by a cold or a virus. He gets 105 fevers every month that lasts for a week.
Thanks Heather. There will be no lapse so I hope it would be covered.

Pre-existing coverage exclusions apply when an individual has had not insurance for 60 or more days prior to obtaining coverage. The exclusion lasts for 12 months.
So, for example . . . Person A is working and has insurance, loses job, can't afford to pay COBRA and is without insurance for 45 days, then gets new job with insurance that starts immediately. There is no pre-existing condition limitation in place b/c the coverage lapse was only 45 days. In the same scenario, but the insurance doesn't go into effect until Person A has been employed for 90 days. 90+45=135 without insurance, the pre-existing condition limitation is in place for 12 months UNLESS the specific coverage has a shorter exclusion time.
