I dont eat bacon, but am wondering what the organic, uncured, nitrate free bacon tastes like. Is it them same? I read this about nitrates and am wondering if they are as bad as we think...

Given that sodium nitrate occurs naturally in foods like spinach, carrots and celery, as well as the fact that nitrite has never been shown to cause cancer, all the fuss about nitrates and nitrites might seem like typical media-driven hysteria. Moreover, the supposedly "natural" or "organic" versions of these products can contain many times more sodium nitrate than their conventional counterparts. But when you consider the increased likelihood of contracting botulism, it's actually the nitrate-free products that present the real health risk.

Not to get off topic, but it seems so silly to me that this was moved to the "dining in or out" forum. It was just a fun question! It's not about restaurants or recipes or something! lol

I know! I just got an FM about it being moved. sound crazy but I'm annoyed , I never come over to this forum. I won't see the rest of the responses. Makes no sense at all.

Sometimes life just needs a little bacon! Like all guilty pleasures, I indulge in moderation and when occasion warrants.
